Eve. It's all I can remember. Eve. It's my name, what people call me. People. Will I ever see people again? I can't quite remember specific names or faces, but I do remember the company of a person. I like people.
Why is it so dark in here? Where is the light? Am I underground? Or in a dark building maybe?
I pull my knees up to my chest and hug my legs. I have on a thin dress. It only reaches the top of my knees. It's short sleeved and fitted from the waist up. I can't see it's color though, in this darkness.
Questions start rushing through my head, Why am I here? What is this place? Why can't I remember anything? Is this some sort or punishment?
But then my confusion and fear turns into annoyance and anger. Who put me here? What did I ever do to get put into this damn cage?!
The elevator jerks up again. My hands dart from my legs to the walls. I grip the cage with my hands, holding myself up.
"Hello?" I yell out in hopelessness. It's strange to hear my own voice.
The elevator finally stops. Silence.
A small crack of light appears from the top of the elevator. It becomes a line of light, then grows in width. The light burns my eyes. I hug my legs again and hide my face in between my knees.
I hear voices. People? I lift my face from my knees and stand up. A figure comes crashing down into the cage with me.
He lands on his feet and I back up until my back hits one of the walls of the cage.
Then, he looks at me like I have killed his mother.
"Holy shuck... It's a girl!" he says in disbelief. He has an accent. This stirs up a load of voices coming from up above.
What's it to ya', pal? I think to myself.
He has dirty blonde hair and big muscles poking out of his arms. He must be around six feet tall, towering over my small 5'5" frame.
"Who- Who are you?" I stutter, utterly failing at trying not to sound like a lost child.
"Name's Newt," he says in his accent.
He starts walking toward me, and I press harder against the cage walls, even though it's physically impossible to go back anymore.
"Hey, it's alright." he says, trying to calm me down.
Suddenly, I'm no longer afraid of him, and gain some confidence.
"What am I doing here? Where am I? Who brought me here? Did you bring me here?!" I demand.
"Woah, woah, now hold on princess. Let's save the questions for later. First, we need to get out of the Box." he says.
"The Box?"
Newt ignores my questions and grabs a rope that leads up to the opening.
I start to acknowledge the other voices coming from above,
"Is she hot?"
"I call dibs!"
"What is a shucking girl doing in the Glade?"
"I want to see her!"
They act like I'm an object, a prize to be won! What the hell?!
"Just put your foot in that loop, and those shanks up there will pull you up." Newt says. Shanks?
Hesitantly, I follow his instruction, desperately wanting to escape the Box, but scared of the people awaiting me above.
They pull me up and I step onto the grass. The boys pulling the rope stare at me for a moment before lowering the rope down for Newt.
Now they are all silent. I look around the crowd. Some of the boys have faces of blank emotion that I can't read. Some look angry. And some of them look at me with desire, eyes deep with dark hunger.
I'm scared of every single one. But I have to stay strong.
"Would anyone mind telling me where I am?" I shout into the silence.
Before anyone can answer, some of the boys break apart, forming a path. All of a sudden a dark skinned boy jogs through.
He is big, not as tall as Newt, but muscular and strong. He is scowling at me.
He walks up toward me. As soon as I start backing away, he stops.
"Welcome to the Glade." he says.
