My brother pulls up to the entrance to let me out so he can go park by the baseball team and everyone is giving me looks. I hate being looked at, it brings too much attention to me. Jenna walks up to me with a little pep in her step, completely oblivious with everyone around us.
"Guess what?! Remember how we used to do gymnastics when we were little, and dreamed of being on a team? Well, I signed us up for tryouts. They're before school next week!"
"Jenna... I don't know if that's a good idea."
"C'mon Bell it'll be fun!"
"Okay. But, you have to pick me up."
Jenna leaves me to go to class while I head to Math.
While I'm walking to my seat someone sticks out their foot and I trip and fall.
"Try not to fall for the wrong person. It isn't gonna work sweetheart."
Someone comes and lends me a hand, it's Sean.
"C'mon Bell, let's get to our seats."
I take his hand and we go to sit down. We've never really been close, but close enough. Whenever mom is gone we always look out for each other, decide who's pick for dinner or the movie.
Class goes by with a few kicks to the back of my chair and Nick clearly annoyed with the rumor going around. Clearly he doesn't understand it's not negative towards him, just me. Jessica will always blame me, no matter what, and everyone listens and believes her.
I meet up with Jenna in lunch while everyone is laughing on how I got "rejected". Jenna begs me to spill the tea so I do, I tell her everything. I tell her about the rain, about the movie, and the rumor.
The day ends with no more cuts and bruises than when it started, just wait until work.
I walk in and the little "ding" of the door is welcoming to me, signaling the start of my shift. I go get changed and throw on my apron. Hours go by and then only Jessica and her crew show up, no boys with them. I look around for any other waiter to do their table, but I seem to be the only one available. I head over to their table where the gleam in their eyes screams evil. I don't think I can do this. Breath. Just, breath.
"What can I get for you?"
They look up in unison and smirk in unison.
"Diner girl. So nice to see you. I'll have a burger and fries with three vanilla shakes."
Wow, the monster eats like a regular person? Absolutely amazing.
I grab their food and serve it to them.
"Diner girl, my fries are cold. I know hot fries when I see them, and these are not hot."
"I'll get right on it."
Ugh, I hate working here and serving them. I give the bitch a new tray of fries, and she casually slams her elbow into a bottle of opened ketchup directed towards me.
"Oops, how clumsy of me."
They get up and leave, how clumsy of me, my ass. I head to the bathroom to get cleaned up. I'm told to take the trash outside to the garbage can in the alley next to the diner. I hear a group of people approaching and someone taps on my shoulder. I turn around and get slapped in the face, but that's not all. They punch, kick, and elbow me while I'm laying on the ground helplessly waiting for it to end, and it finally does after my lower body becomes numb.
"If you ever thought you and Nick would end up together, it's not gonna happen. He's mine, got it sunshine?! You aren't enough for him, you will never be, for anyone. Leave Nick alone, he doesn't like you, what don't you get about this? Huh? Oh, and don't bother joining the team, you won't make it."
I lay there completely numb and crying as I watch them walk away feeling accomplished for what they did.
