Slushies

The Fest opens today and Jenna, Sean, Nick and I are all gonna go. Nick doesn't have anywhere else to be since he broke up with Jessica, so he decided to come with us. Afterwards, Sean said that Jenna and I should come to his baseball team's party. Mom isn't going to be home for a couple of days, she is helping out another hospital out of state, thank god.

When we arrived to the fair grounds Jenna and Sean pretty much ditched Nick and I at the roller coaster because they were "too scared". After the ride, we went to go search for them, only to find them making out under a tree nearby. Jenna sees me and immediately pulls away, my mouth is wide open but words can't seem to form.

"Bella, we weren't planning on you finding out like this. I promise you, we were going to tell you soon."

"Jenna, that's MY brother. Even you Sean, why didn't you tell me. She's MY best friend. You know what? I'll catch you guys later. I just need to think this through for a moment."

I make myself comfortable on a secluded park bench, and place my head in my hands. How did I not see this coming? Ever since one of Jessica's friends stayed over night doing God knows what, the girls coming and going from Sean's bedroom suddenly stopped. In the mornings, Jenna started picking me up, and she would be waiting for me super early. Ugh. Why does life have to do this to me?

I pick my head back up, and Nick is sitting right next to me with a thing of cotton candy.

"You know, scientifically cotton candy can make anyone feel better?"

"I thought that was ice cream?"

"Okay whatever. I try to make you feel better and you kill my analogy. Maybe I just won't give you any."

"No no no no, sharing is caring."

I grab a handful and stuff it in my mouth in between laughs. I instantly feel better already.

"The sun is setting, wanna go on the Ferris Wheel?"

"Sure, why not. I have nothing to lose."

We wait in line and finally manage to get on before I lose my patience.

"So, why did you storm off?"

"I wanted to leave before I did or said anything irrational, and risk losing my brother and best friend."

"Hm. That's pretty smart."

"Nick?"

"Yeah?"

"Why are you being so nice to me. You don't have to stay with me and hear about my sad life and all my rants. Shouldn't you be hanging out with the team? Not me?"

"Well Bella. Ever since I broke up with Jess, I thought back on how I never stood up for you and how I was such a jerk. I never said a word to you because I didn't want to offend Jess. I feel like I owe you."

"Nick, you don't owe me anything. It's just the way life is, we aren't supposed to cross paths. We shouldn't even be talking right now."

We stop noticing that we are at the top and the sunset is absolutely stunning.

"And yet Bell, here we are."

The ride ends and we get off. I spot Sean and Jenna waiting for us. I run up and give my best friend a hug.

"Bella, I'm so sorry."

"It's okay, all is forgiven. I just needed some time and someone to talk to."

I turn around and smile at Nick, while he's talking to Sean. I smell the familiar wave of strong perfume come from behind us.

"Oh look, it's the pity party. Sean, Nick, why don't we save you before you catch their disease, it's quite contagious."

Sean looks like he's about to kill her, but Nick holds him back.

"Listen Jessica, Sean and I are fine. So why don't you take your little clan and go torment someone else. You've done enough for the week. Go find somewhere else to be a bitch."

"Oh Nick. It seems as though you've already caught it. Well it seems that we need to kill this virus girls. Becca give me your slushy."

Jessica throws the red, cherry slushy all over me, and my white shirt. Why did I chose to wear white? Oh, maybe it's because I wasn't planning on getting slushy all over me.

"All better. See you later boys."

And with that she winks and walks away.

"Bell, why don't you go home and change. Jenna can come with you. Nick and I are gonna head to the party, I'll send you the address. You don't have to come if you don't want to."

"No, Sean. I'll be there."
