I come home with Sean behind be carrying the bags. We find mom sitting on the couch staring at the wall.
"Mom?"
"Your father called"
Oh no. He told her.
"What did he say?"
"He told me that you accepted a scholarship from the University of San Francisco and that you will be living with him."
I hear the bags fall behind me, I turn around and Sean can't hide his surprise.
"Sean, I'm sorry I wanted to tell you. I just didn't know how."
"I'm your brother, Bella. What is Nick going to say about this? You know he stayed for you, thinking you would stay with him. Do you not know that you're the only one leaving?"
"I know Sean. That's why I didn't tell anyone. I'm too scared."
I only see a blur because of my tears.
"Listen, I'll help you. What you need to do is tell Nick first, and then tell everyone as a whole."
"Okay"
I head up to my room and fall on my bed and let all of my stress melt away.
I decide it's time to call Nick and meet him at the diner and tell him.
I sit at our booth and see him walk in.
"Hey babe."
"Hey"
"What's up"
"Listen, what I want to say is I'm sorry. I'm leaving in a couple of days to go to the University of San Francisco."
"What? I stayed here for you, because I thought that's what you wanted! I'm rooming with Sean, does any one else know about this?"
"Besides Sean and my mom, no. This is already hard enough, but for the sake of both of us I don't think long distance is going to work for us. I'm really sorry Nick."
By now both of us were crying.
"So this is how we're going to end, because you don't think long distance will work."
Nick stands up.
"I hope you have fun in San Francisco."
Did you hear that? My heart just shattered into a million tiny pieces. Tonight is where I address everyone.
I head home and immediately run into Sean and cry into his arms. He rubs my back and shushes me.
"It's okay Bella. He'll get over it."
"We had it all Sean. We were happy and I ruined it."
I run into my room and start packing up my things, to keep my mind off of Nick. I sit in my room and get ready to break the news to my friends.
I sit at our usual booth and Sean, Jenna, Matthew, and Brittany come in, without Nick.
"Listen, I want to get this over quick. I'm leaving in a couple days to attend college in San Francisco, and I'm sorry I didn't tell you earlier, they gave me an offer I couldn't refuse."
I look down and feel someone's hand on my arm, Jenna.
"Bella, we've been best friends for forever and we have wanted each other to succeed for forever and if this is your path then we will all still be here, supporting you."
Brittany joins in.
"Plus, we heard about Nick, so we kind of got a heads up. But, don't worry about us, we are all very proud of you, and we'll help you pack to spend more time with you. Like Jenna said, we will still be here, always."
Always
