I didn't get back home until late, I was able to go home because Sean would be there. All I wanted to do was sleep in but Jenna came by and woke me up at 7:00 to go get my cast removed. I can't believe it took a total of two hours just for me to get my cast removed. Afterwards, we were going to meet up with Brittany at the mall and go shopping and grab some lunch. The kiss is still fresh in my mind even though it was days ago, but I still don't know how to react to it.
Brittany notices my quietness, "So, you haven't said much. What's going on with you?".
"Oh you know just the usual. My best friend dating my brother, me kissing my brother's best friend, I might not be able to go to college..."
They both stop walking and stand in front of me with their arms crossed.
"Wait what? Slow down?! You and Nick kissed?"
I can feel my face heat up at the mention of my slip up. "Yeah we did."
I end up telling them everything from when my beating happened to Nick running out the window. There were so many different facial expressions I lost track.
We lose track of time and it's already 3:30, my first practice in the boot is in a half an hour. We head to school and I head to the trainer to get my ankle looked at first and then do some stretches. Brittany is watching me closely, ready to catch me when I fall while slowly working on my routine. Jessica is occasionally sending me dirty glares but I don't bother. I have better things to do.
My foot doesn't hurt that much when I finish. I go over to my bag and my phone rings.
"Hey kiddo."
"Hey dad. What's up?"
"I heard you have a big meet in a couple of weeks."
My dad and I have been talking a lot lately. With Daryl drinking all the time and mom not being home, calling dad is kinda safe for me. He gives me an excuse to not talk to Daryl and to start rebuilding my relationship with him.
"Yeah I do, but I don't know if I'm going to get anywhere, with my foot healing and all. I just really need a scholarship, it's my ticket out of here."
"Well you can always come stay with me if you want. Then you can just drive to class and we can be together."
"I would love to."
Here's the problem my dad lives in California while I'm stuck in Florida. My mom would never allow it. She would think that I lied and that I just want to get away from her, and that is drama that I don't need at the moment.
I head home and climb the tree into my room and get changed for work. I hate my car, but I love it at the same time. I mean, a monster of a man gave it to me, but it's my only transportation. I get there at 7:30 PM and close at 12:00. I drive home on the empty, dark roads and head straight to my room not bothering to look at anything or anyone. I collapse onto my bed and feel my body relax as I whisper to myself.
"I better be getting good paychecks soon, or what am I doing with my life?"
