Last night Sean drove me to the hospital and called Jenna to come stay with me. Sean left and I don't think I want to know where he went. We sat there waiting for over an hour, and gradually the bleeding from my stomach got worse. I went to stand up to get a bottle of water and somewhere between me getting up and actually walking I must have collapsed.
I woke up in a white room with sterile walls that make me nauseous. Jenna is sleeping in the chair next to me with her phone resting on her. Last night it pretty much a blur besides the you know, abuse. I try to move but it hurts so much that I yell out in pain, waking Jenna up.
"Oh my god! Bella! You're awake! Oh and in pain! I'll get the nurse."
A nurse comes in and tells me all that has happened. It turns out that I have a slight concussion, a black eye (clearly), major bruising on my stomach and a big cut that needed stitches. I am cleared to go until they double check my vitals and give me my pain meds.
I see my old duffle bag that we used for family vacations sitting on a chair, bringing back memories that I purposefully pushed into the back of my mind. I change into the clothes that Sean must've brought me and go with Jenna to her house, where I explained to her everything that had happened.
I receive a call from an unknown number and let it go to voicemail. After my phone is done ringing I pick it up to listen to the voice mail.
"Listen here you little bitch. You really thought sending your brother to yell at me and pack for you is going to help. It's not. I trust that you will keep this between us, or I could always find a way to silence you."
I feel the chills roll down my spine from the violence in his voice. Jenna looks at me, terrified.
"We're gonna need backup."
The Next Day
I arrive at school with Jenna and we both go to our lockers. Upon approaching mine I see a concerned looking Nick leaning against my locker. Before I reach my destination some "thing" decides to stop me.
"I didn't think you had the money to try and get some work done. Well clearly it failed miserably, maybe it's for the better."
I push past her and her giggling idiots and catch up to Nick before the bell rings.
"Bella? What happened to you? Is everything okay?"
"Not now Nick. Everything's fine. Like I told you before, I fell because I'm so clumsy."
"You fell so hard that you had to get stitches on your stomach?"
"How do you know that?"
"I went to the hospital to visit while you were still out. Did you really think I wouldn't show up?"
"Well, I figured you had better things to do than to worry about me."
And there goes the bell, pulling me away from this awkward conversation. Like Daryl said, this doesn't get out.
Everyone stares at me forcing their eyes into my soul like I'm some alien. I get it, I look bad, but not THAT bad. Lunch comes rolling around and Sean has me sit with him and the team. Apparently after you get a few cuts and bruises you brother becomes super protective. Jenna and I join him and the baseball team, well my brother's closest friends on the baseball team. Which consist of... James (funny one), Matthew (pretty much always gets into fights), Tyler (smart one), Matthew's girlfriend Brittany (super sweet), and Nick (you already know). All of the boys are super cute and really tall and kind of intimidating.
During lunch, all their jokes distracted me from the reality of having to run and hide to Jenna's house because my brother wasn't there to protect me. It was great, they were all so kind, they made me forget. It was nice to have a new girl like Brittany around, a breath of fresh air. Which I knew was going to run out when I returned home.
Rumors were spreading like wildfire. I was hearing that I was in a fire or a shark attack, both don't make any sense. I needed somewhere to go and that was gymnastics.
After School
It turns out Brittany is one of the main captains of the gymnastics team, I don't know why I didn't notice this before. We all worked on our routines knowing a competition was coming up and the list for who competes was going to be posted soon. I ignored bars for the sake of my stitches and worked on my floor routine, hoping that my stitches don't bust and stain my leo.
Jenna is constantly watching me making sure that I'm okay and that I don't faint again. Brittany is really good and has all her routines perfected. Changing back into our clothes we decide to watch a movie and relax and Jenna's house.
Right before we leave, I spot the entire team huddled around the board, the list must have been posted. I walk up and try to catch a glimpse to see if I am competing tomorrow. I scan the list until I see my name. It turns out that I will be doing floor with my best friends.
I made it.... but someone else didn't.
Jessica.
