I wake up and turn to see who came to my rescue last night, Nick. I can't be here, he has a fiancée and that fiancée tried to kill me. I rush out of bed and run downstairs to avoid confrontation, Sean is sitting there eating and Jenna is making waffles. It's just a Saturday, but it's really not. Today we are planning the attack on my father's gang house, and Sean and I are arguing because I wanna go.
"Sean, you have to let me go. I'm the one that was dragged into this, unwillingly!"
"No, I will not risk you getting hurt."
"Sean, man, let her go. It'll give her peace of mind and I'll be with her the entire time to make sure she is safe."
Nick had just come down the stairs after seeing that I wasn't there. I refrain from making eye contact with him, for fear of making things even more awkward.
"And how would you know that, Nick?"
"I..."
I speak up before he can finish.
"He heard me screaming last night from a nightmare."
Sean doesn't seem to believe me and I feel my cheeks turn a deep shade of pink.
Jessica hasn't been seen for days and my secrets inside of me are eating me alive. I walk into Sean's office.
"We need to talk."
He looks up from his work.
"Finally."
I tell him how dad wanted me in the gang, how my boyfriend cheated on me and dad's daughter and wife. I feel relieved getting that off my chest because in a few nights is the take over, and I'm not so sure if I'm going to make it.
I head up to my room and Nick is sitting on my bed.
"Hey, can we talk?"
"Nick, you have a fiancée, who hates me with a burning passion."
"Bella, she's not with me anymore. Did you seriously think that I wouldn't find out that she joined The Shadows and that she was trying to kill you?"
"Well, Yeah."
"Bella, of course I knew, but when you left she was there. She was gonna be the person to fill the void that you left me with. I'm sorry I reacted the way I did when you left, but like everyone was telling you, I will always be there for you. I miss us, I miss being together, I missed you so much. I'll be here, waiting for you."
Nick stood up and planted a gentle kiss on my lips before walking out the door. I almost forgot what it felt like to be kissed by someone who loved you so much. It was as if the spark had never left between us.
The next few days fly by and it seems that I am going to be out of the loop with everyone. While the gang is raiding I will be standing outside with Nick and a radio listening to what's going on, and going off of that.
It's finally the night and I am pulling my black leggings, black Nike's and a black shirt with a leather jacket. Not gonna lie, I look badass.
I climb in the car with Nick to avoid exploiting everyone else in case we were being tracked or the other way around. We arrive and Nick and I hide in a forest of trees by the back door of the warehouse. Previously, we covered the place in gasoline so it would be an easy exit.
Over the radio, I'm hearing yelling, mostly from Sean, which means that my father might be there. Then just like that gun shots are going off from what seems like every direction, and Nick holds on to me and kisses the top of my head.
"It's gonna be okay, they all know what they're doing."
I look up at him.
"I hope so."
Then we hear rustling in the shrubs behind us and we fall silent, I can faintly make out the shape of a body and they are holding a gun. Nick pushes me behind him and the unknown person emerges from their hiding spot.
"Well, would you look who it is. Nick and Bella, I thought you would actually leave him alone, I mean I thought you were dead. Well hoped is a better word for it. You always never did give up did you, diner girl."
Before I know it, I am grabbing Nick's gun out of his pocket and taking a single shot at Jessica, instantly killing her.
"Where did you learn how to shoot?"
"Well, when your father is a gang leader and you live with him, you pick up on a few things."
Then Sean, Jenna, Brittany, Matthew and some other unknown stragglers, probably from our gang come rushing out. Sean gives the signal and Nick and I walk out. I pull out the lighter and throw it, watching the building go up in flames, the dancing colors of the fire reflecting off of everyone's faces. I finally release my breath that I didn't know I was holding. Sean comes up to me and gives me a hug, he has some scrapes and bruises but he's okay.
"It's all over Bella, you did it."
I think I might be losing my mind but I swear I hear my father laughing in the distance and see him hobbling away as my stomach tightens.
I don't think it's over, I don't think I did it, I don't think he burned.
