I stick my landing and I look to the judges and see that I got a perfect 10, and right next to that ten is a fuming Jessica. The entire team runs on to the mat, we just won, and now it's time for the formal.
It's only 5:30 and the Winter Formal is at 8:00, which gives us two and a half hours to get ready. Jenna and Brittany pull me out the mass of people and we get into my car. We get our hair, make up and nails done, which leaves us with a half an hour to be fully ready until our dates pick us up. Sean and Nick went to Matthew's to get ready.
The boys don't come until around 8:00, we enjoy being fashionably late. We arrive and I already spot Jessica's furious gaze at me, so I smile and wave at her. The gym has navy and gold balloons blown up all around with streamers, but the decorations can't hide the smell of sweat. The DJ is James from the team, and Nick grabs me to dance with him. I'm having an amazing time and then my phone rings with an unknown number. I tell Nick that I'm heading outside for some fresh air and answer it.
"Hello?"
"Hello, is this Bella Winfrey?"
"This is. May I ask who's calling?"
"This is Nancy from the University of San Francisco, we are willing to offer you a full ride scholarship."
"Oh wow um can I call you back."
"Take as much time as you need. We'll be in touch."
"Alright good bye."
I'm surprised to find Nick behind me, how much did he hear?
"Hey, who was that?"
Quick Bella! Think of an excuse!
"Oh you know just some scam company trying to get money from me."
"I hate those callers, why don't we head back inside and then the six of us can head to the diner for some milkshakes."
"That sounds great."
And the night goes on, we ended up staying at the diner until closing time and still hung out at Jenna's house after. Nick pulls me outside in the middle of the movie.
"Hey, I know this is terrible timing, with the movie and everything and it being in the middle.."
"Nick, you're rambling again."
"So um you know I really liked your dress tonight it was really pretty."
He liked my dress? That's what he pulled me outside to say? That he liked my dress?
"Thanks. I think I'm gonna head back inside, it's a little cold out."
Well that was weird. I decide to call dad and let him know the great news.
"Hello?"
"Hey dad."
"What's up kiddo?"
"Well I'm graduating in a few months and after the competition today the University of San Francisco called me."
"What did they say?"
"They're offering me a full ride scholarship."
"That's great! Are you going to take it?"
"Yeah I am, I'm just worried on how everyone will react, like mom. Plus, I can live with you. If that's okay."
"Yes, that's great. Your mother will be fine with all of it."
"Thanks."
I hope he's right.
