To be honest I don't know if this is really an opinion or me making a statement and sharing my thoughts, but SOMI's debut was perfect
If you haven't heard of SOMI at all she was a former JYP trainee and was an active member in IOI when they were around for their 1 year contract. After IOI disbanded the girls went on to debut in other groups and releasing music while SOMI just did solo promotions on the side which kept her busy for about like 3 years. JYP and SOMI ended their contract last year and now SOMI is officially debuting and putting herself out into the world with her new song "Birthday" (which by the way if you haven't heard it you need to it's so good!!).
When I first heard SOMI's song I was kinda shocked because it was something very different and unique sounding from other Kpop songs but to be honest we need that. It was very hard for me to like the song at first listen (I thought it was good and I didn't dislike it, but I didn't love it either). SOMI's debut was perfect for her because it allowed us as fans who have been waiting for her debut to truly see our SOMI back in action. I think her whole aesthetic and mv was very pretty and fun to look at (especially cause it had colors everywhere) and her vocals and dancing were amazing as well. It was a pleasure to see all of SOMI's hard work finally pay off (even though she stated in a conference yesterday that she was still practicing it and changing moves). In addition, in that conference a reporter said to SOMI that it was kind of a letdown for him since there were no challenging parts of the choreography, but honestly I disagree with his statement. Yes, the dance moves aren't the hardest that I've seen but having an easier choreography makes it easy for fans to learn and dance to it with SOMI. Also, she did JUST debut, so for this guy to say it was a letdown when she just released it a day prior to this conference was kinda rude not gonna lie. In addition, she hasn't really done anything music wise such as promoting a song for a while and she's a new soloist, so people should give her time to adjust then make an opinion. My message to everyone is just to consider she's new to the soloist career and to please give her time, also to not spread hate because no one deserves that.
