Deku entered the office few minutes later. He say down next to Satomi, glancing round the room. "Deku!" Satomi said "You don't mind me calling you Deku, right?"
Deku smiled. He seemed unsure at first but her bright smile out him at ease.
Satomi smiled back even brighter than before, she couldn't help it, Deku's smile was contagious. She asked him questions about the USJ and the training camp then her eye dulled again and she smiled again.
She indicated for him to leave and he opened his mouth to speak but closed it again, deciding to stay quiet, clutching his notebook in his hands.
"Could you send Bakugou in please?"
Deku got up and left the room in silence, deep in thought. A hero he didn't know who worked at UA? Though he probably recognised her from the Sports Festival.
Satomi leaned back in her seat and sighed. She closed her eyes afterthought through everything she had seen and heard so far. From what she knew, she thought, it was probably one of the students. A member of class 1 a most likely...
"What do you want, cyborg bastard?" Bakugou said, kicking the door open. Satomi opened her eyes. "Knock next time." She said, sitting up in her seat. Any remains of her smile were sipped from her face.
He was just like she had been during her time at UA. Rude, rough, angry, not exactly the class favourite. He probably had different reasons though.
She went through the same basic quesions. When she started to ask about his kidnapping Bakugou just told her the same thing she had already heard from the other teachers.
Her eye dimmed and she looked at him. He was sat back in the chair, his legs up on the table.
"Can I tell you something? I'm sure it'll help you to become the number 1 hero."
Bakugou looked at her out of the corner of his eye before grunting, probably meaning he's but it wasn't entirely clear.
"Look at where I am now. Unknown, forgotten, hardly do any hero work so no-one knows my face, right? I'm the opposite of everything you hope to become so, if you want to be the best, then you need to act differently to me."
Bakugou was vaguely paying attention. He glanced at her out of the corner of his eye. Satomi watched him. Over her years at UA She had gotten good at reading body language and she could tell that he was hanging onto her every word but was afraid of seeking desperate for the advice. He was silent, glancing at her every few seconds, he had turned his head to face her more but not so he was looking directly at her.
"I was just like you and that drive people away. Every internship I had, every work study, ended early because the hero thought I was too violent or that I could never work in a team. By the time I had finished my third year I had no places left to go. I had to stay here and even so it was under strict rules to make sure I wouldn't lash out at students. That isn't the sort of person you want to be."
He started to stand up. He had heard every word and was thinking about it, despite his apparent disinterest.
"Stop pretending that you don't care about anyone and, though it's good to be confident, don't throw others under the bus just to fuel your own fire. It won't get you anywhere." Satomi sighed and stood up herself. The two walked across campus together to the school cafeteria.
They grabbed plates of food and headed to a table where four people already sat.
"Why are you following me everywhere, you cyborg bastard?" Bakugou explained as Satomi Sat opposite him.
Satomi looked around the room, watching students eating and chatting. They didn't seem to worry about anything. She missed that sense of uncaring. The feeling that nothing really mattered. She could hardly remember it though. Everything had always been something huge or dangerous to her, ever since it all began.
Suddenly Mina burst out laughing. Satomi looked up to see Denki trying to eat soup with a fork. She smiled as Bakugou but him over the head muttering something about them all being dumbasses.
Maybe she could pretend for a while longer.
