Nine wandered the halls of UA. Her eyes scanned each room and passed, looking for people but she didn't find any. All she foumd, as she searched, were more and more memories.
Her first year classroom. She had been so cold back then. When would help at anyone who tried to befriend her and she would lash out at anyone who got too close. Somehow, there were still people willing to spend time with her, she hated that more than anything, the people she couldn't shake off. The people who stood by her.
The changing rooms. She would be constantly asked about her scars, where she got them and why she had so many. She would just ignore them as much as she could and try to brush away any memories that sprung up anytime she was asked. She didn't always succeed.
The support year lab. Where she had gone every time She needed a part changed or a hardware update. Some of the support course would pitch ideas to her about new things she could get installed. They could be very inventive sometimes, sometimes that was good, other times not so much.
Every memory stung. Whether it was a bad memory, of the things she hated and wanted to forget, or a good one, of the things she had lost and missed more than she would admit.
She remembered watching so many people walk these halls. People she knew and complete strangers. She had watched Shou here. She always paid attention to him, even back then. She had decided to protect him, for Touya.
She heard someone in one of the rooms she passed. She opened the door and looked around the room.
She couldn't see anyone so she switched to infrared. There, on the floor by her feet, was a figure, crawling as eminently as they could. Nine kicked towards the figure and her foot connected.
The figure slid back a bit and yelled out in surprise. "Hagakure." Nine said, looking at where she knew the figure was now, as they pulled themselves to their feet.
Hagakure pulled herself to her feet, cursing under her breath as Nine's eyes followed her. She looked up at the villain and prepared to attack.
Then she stopped.
Something about Nine seemed off. Maybe the way she was stood it her expression, whatever it was, it made Hagakure hesitate.
Nine just stood there, not attacking, despite the chance she had been given. She just watched the determined, invisible girl with something that looked like sadness.
"Why are you a villain?" Hagakure asked the question before she could even think about it. Nine looked away from her.
"Not every choice is yours to make. Not every choice can be undone." Nine said after a minute. Hagakure thought over what she had said. "What does that mean?" Nine chuckled slightly.
"Does it really matter? It won't change the outcome." Nine looked up at Hagakure with dad eyes. She wasn't trying to cover it now, she just let Hagakure see how she was feeling.
"I'll explain it later, if I can. I guess you can go. I might regret that decision later but it will not be the worst division I've ever made at least."
The villain walked away, leaving Hagakure alone. Nine wiped something away from her eyes as she turned the corner and walked down another familiar corridor.
Hagakure heard footsteps behind her and turned to see Momo who ploughed right into her. The two girls stood up.
"Toru! We have a plan..."
