ANNIE LAKEN
If I know anything about the hospital, they try and release a patient as soon as they can. Emma was in the hospital for two more days, being released and happy as ever to be back home.
The day Emma and I had our heart to heart, our parents finally made it down that night. Our dad staying for two days, but our mom was still here with us, helping Emma get back into the groove of things- such as attempting to walk up our stairs to our room. Even though Emma was cleared, the doctors ordered her to take things slow and careful. They did not want her accidentally ripping her stitches open.
Emma had one arm wrapped around mine while our mom stood behind Emma just in case she lost her balance. She was capable of walking, but we were taking all precautions.
"I think I'm fine guys." Emma's normal raspy voice said, her taking the steps at a pretty slow pace, but she was doing just fine like she said.
Before I could say anything, our mom spoke up. "Hunny, I don't want you losing your balance and-"
"Falling and ending back in the hospital, I know." She had a tint of attitude in her voice, but who could blame her?
Our mom didn't say anything back, and I didn't even want to put my input in because if I was in her position, I'd want to do stuff on my own and not feel so helpless.
Shortly, we made it to the top of the steps, myself letting go of Emma so she could walk to our bed by herself. Our mom and I both watched as she pulled back the blanket, sitting down. Her face pinched up a bit, but after her legs were up on the bed, she looked just fine.
Emma looked over at us, giving us a closed mouth smile. "See, I'm all good, now go have some fun, I'm gonna sleep." Happy to hear her be so positive, I looked at my mom and she looked over at me, the two of us mentally telling one another that we should leave Emma to sleep.
"Okay hun, you just call us if you need anything." Our mom gave Emma a kiss on the forehead, rubbing her arm a bit. I then butted in, staring my sister directly in the eyes.
"Yeah, if you need anything I'm here, okay?"
Emma rolled her eyes, "I know you two."
With that, my mom and I walked down the steps and to the kitchen so Emma couldn't hear us. The two of us stood in silence for a little bit, taking it all in.
Emma was fine. She was still alive and feeling good. But that still doesn't cancel out the fact that she literally got shot and could have died.
I felt my face start to heat up, my eyes filling with tears.
"Sweetie, it's okay, she's okay." My mom noticed how upset I was getting, pulling me in close. I wrapped my arms around her waist, letting out all my emotions. Even though Emma and I had a great conversation yesterday, my heart was still aching.
"I want you to go do something fun. Something that will take your mind off of things." She whispered, rubbing my back in a calming matter. "What is Grayson doing today?"
Lifting my head from off her shoulder, I rubbed the tears from off my bare face. Hearing Grayson's name made my stomach do a little twist, knowing that I haven't talked to him all day yet.
"I don't know, I'll call him." My voice cracked, grabbing my phone out of my back pocket, taking my moms advice.
Maybe seeing Grayson will help me take my mind off of things. Grayson has helped me in so many ways. From dealing with Asher in the beginning, to dealing with Freya, to now dealing with the accident of my sister. He is one hell of a guy, and I'm so happy he's mine.
