Maya:

Time in the lab - so far - wasn't that bad, for me at least. For Bucky? Well, anyone could tell he hated it; a lot. Stark had practically taken apart his whole arm, examining the wires and mechanisms of the machine, and still hadn't put it back together. Bucky was sitting on a stool with his arm torn apart while Stark kept throwing random questions at me.

"What's the formula for the impulse of an object?" Stark asked from across the lab, the sound travelling easily to my ears through the room made of glass. Tony also had me on a computer with programming software so he could see how many coding languages I knew (which was seven).

"Ft = mv - mu. C'mon Stark, if you're gonna give me a quiz at least make it a little harder," I complained while rerunning a javascript animation. I saw Bucky smile a little out of the corner of my eye.

"What's Newton's law of universal gravitation?" He yells once again while picking up a pair of tweezers and poking through Bucky's arm some more.

"F = G times m1m2 / r2. Seriously, Tony, this is boring, and I finished your animation," I said with a smirk.

"What? That's impossible," He said while dropping the tweezers and walking over to the table I was sitting at. "it's only been like ten min-" I interrupted him by starting the perfectly functional animation. I looked up at him with a smirk.

"Admit it Stark, you think I'm a genius," I said with the most confident tone I could muster.

"Okay, final question. What's the fundamental equation of thermodynamics?" He said. I could tell I was getting on his nerves. If I didn't answer this correctly, he would refuse to think I'm smart for the rest of my days. I paused. Damnit I knew it! It was at the tip of my tongue. "That's what I thought," he said with a look of victory on his face. He stood straight up again and turned around to walk back where he came from. But that was when the formula popped into my head.

"dU=δQ−δW," I said confidently. I wasn't going to let Stark win.

"...'Kay fine. I presume you're smarter than most people," Tony said, and that brought a smile to my face. Tony Stark just told me I was smart.

"That's good to know. Am I done here, or is there another test I need to take?" I said. I was getting tired of Tony's games. None of this needed to be done in a lab, he could've just dropped all this off in my room.

"Well, that was everything I was supposed to have you do. But there have been rumours in the last few years saying that you are an enhanced individual, even though there's nothing about it in your file. Is that true?" Tony asked in an accusing tone. I didn't want to tell him that I had powers, but Natasha already knew, and now, so did Bucky. Bucky looked at me with a confused face, as if he was asking me why I wasn't telling Tony. I then shot him a glance, telling him not to say anything.

"Um, yes. I have powers," I figured I should tell him because eventually, he would find out. "I can control and manipulate shadows, I can also travel through them," I continued.

"Can we test this ability?" Tony said while trying to put Bucky's arm back together.

"Sure. But do we have to test it right here?" I asked.

"No, I'll get the chamber set up. You two, don't kill each other," Tony said, only half joking while pointing back and forth to me and Bucky and then venturing deeper into the huge lab that took up almost the whole floor.

I took a seat at the desk that I was sitting at previously before Bucky spoke. "You wanna give putting my arm back together a shot? I mean I hate this thing, but life is a little bit more convenient with two arms," Bucky said while pointing to his arm. I shot him a small smile while standing up and walking over to the table Bucky was sitting at and picking up a pair of tweezers.

"Jesus, what did he do?" I asked. Tony had completely dismantled Bucky's arm, removing all of the metal plates and detaching almost every wire that ran through it. I had seen machinery that was fairly complicated but Bucky's arm was new technology to me.

"You tell me," he said while I took the metal fuser and tried to reattach all of the wires.

In a few minutes, I was done with all of the wires that Tony had cut apart. "Okay, I'm not really sure if I did this right so can you try and move your hand?" I asked. Bucky then wiggled his fingers back and forth. "Can you make a fist?" I asked. Bucky successfully made a fist and was able to move around his hand without a struggle. "Does anything feel weird to you?" I asked before I was going to close up his arm.

"No," he answered. I started to grab the metal plates and fit them in where they needed to be, whoever designed Bucky's arm was smart because they actually colour coded all of the plates corresponding to the placement upon Bucky's arm.

I was done after five minutes of fusing and screwing metal plates back onto Bucky's arm. "Okay, all done!" I said, and then Tony walked back into the part of the lab where Bucky and I were.

"Hey! I wasn't done with that yet!" Tony said madly.

"Well, you are now. Are you going to test my powers or not?" I asked. From the way it looked, Tony made it look like he wanted to destroy Bucky's arm instead of seeing the actual mechanics of it.

"Yeah I guess, follow me. Barnes, you can come too. If you want," he said reluctantly. Tony guided us through the lab, and at the very back was a white room that was sealed off with a very large door. Just outside the room was an observation booth with a pane of glass where you could see inside the white room. "Okay Barnes, you stay out here. Alton, you go in there. I'm going to get Banner," Tony said, he opened the huge door to let me in. I walked in and Tony closed the door. I sat down across from the one-way glass against the padded white wall and waited.

I had been waiting for at least ten minutes now, doing absolutely nothing, so I decided to go outside to see what was going on. I walked up to the steel door and tried to open it, but it was locked. I decided I would escape another way. I closed my eyes and focused, I felt a sudden change in the air and opened my eyes. I was in the 'shadow dimension' as HYDRA liked to call it. Here I could do anything I wanted to. I'm the only one here, and when I was in the shadow dimension, no one from the real world could see me but I could see what was going on in the real world. I walk to through the huge door that was once trapping me and I turned to see Bucky.

"Maya? Maya? Where'd you go" He wondered out loud, looking in all spaces of the white room I was previously in.

I concentrated and brought myself out of the shadow dimension to appear right behind Bucky. "It's good to know I have a roomate that worries about me," I said. All of a sudden he jumped and tried to punch me, which I wasn't ready for. Thank god it was with his right arm. "Ah, fuck, ow!" I half yelled.

"Maya! Shit, I'm so sorry! Here, sit down," Bucky said while gesturing to the chair he was sitting on before. I sat down and grabbed my jaw, which hurt a lot, that blow would definitely leave a bruise.

"Bucky, it's fine, it's just going to leave a small bruise," I said while sitting down on the chair. It did hurt to speak a little though.

"Um, I don't think so. You're bleeding," Bucky said. I felt around the tender are a little more and swiped across a wound that was bleeding, but only a little.

"Yeah, but not a lot. Bucky, it's fine. I shouldn't have scared you like that," I said. I looked over and saw Tony come in with another person, who I assumed was Bruce Banner. "I should get back in there, Tony's coming," I said, and with that, I went back into the shadow dimension and into the white room again.
