November 4th

Maya:

"C'mon doll, you got it," I kept hearing in my head. "It's like a pet name..." All I could see was Bucky, no one else. All I could focus on were the words that were coming out of his mouth. Then everything went blurry.

"Hey doll, I'm back." Bucky walked in the door to our room, wearing his tactical gear and his hair down. I sprung off my couch and ran towards him and hugged him like I did that day when I got him out of the shadow dimension. He kissed me and I kissed back. "Doll... Maya... Maya..."

What?!

"Maya!" Bucky whisper-yelled. My eyes shot open and I found myself leaning on Bucky's shoulder.

"Oh, sorry. Did I fall asleep on you?" I started to freak out a little bit.

"Yeah, I-"

"Oh, shit. I'm so sorry I didn't mean to. I was super tired and-" Bucky put his hand over my mouth which shut me up pretty good considering the really, really uncomfortable emotional position I was in.

"Maya, it's okay. I didn't want to wake you up, you seemed really relaxed. Don't worry, I fell asleep too, and it was probably one of the better nights of sleep I've had in a while." I relaxed a little more and let out a small smile.

"Yeah, me too," I said. I had to get myself out of this situation. I'm sure Bucky could feel the uncomfortable radiating off of me. "I'm uh... I'm gonna go train," I said and almost fast-waled out of the living room.

I was at the punching bag when all I could hear were those words. Doll. I couldn't get it out of my head. Maybe it was just because Bucky was comfortable around me, or maybe it's a force of habit since I heard he was kind of a player back then. I was trying to come up with some excuse other than the reason he gave me because it had only been a fairly short time since I had met him. I tried to ignore the voice in my head telling me that "doll" was something else.

I kept taking out my frustrations on the punching bag until it was no longer on the hook. About two yards in front of me, there it was. The broken punching bag had sand coming out of the very large rip I had caused. I knew Tony would probably be mad at me for leaving the bag on the floor for sand to leak out of it, so I rolled it over such that the rip was on the top. I went down the hallway to the kitchen, where there was a supply closet. I opened the door and grabbed a broom and dustpan and headed back to the gym to clean up my mess. As soon as I was done I hooked on another punching bag and started on that one.

~

I was on my third punching bag and I could start to feel bruises and tears of skin under my wraps. I was immediately caught off guard when I heard someone's voice, "Tough day?" the voice said. I turned around to see Steve.

"Rogers? what are you doing here? I thought you guys were on a mission," I wondered out loud.

"Mission was a bust. No one was there. All we found were a few old digital files, and they were completely inaccessible."

"I bet I could access them," I said.

"Oh really," he challenged. "Because both Tony and Bruce tried and they got nothing. Do you want to spar?"

"I know everything there is to know about HYDRA since they let me keep my memories - for the most part. I know the names of every full-clearance agent by heart, I know most of their facilities inside and out, and I know - and worked with - the person that designed most of the firewalls and algorithms that prevents anyone that's not a part of HYDRA from ever getting access to those files. And sure, I'll spar," I say while walking into the wrestling ring.

"So you're saying that you have a better chance of accessing those files than Tony and Bruce."

"Well, maybe with a little help from them, and maybe Bucky, then sure. I think there's a better chance that we could get into those files."

"Why Bucky?" Steve asked while throwing a punch, which I then dodged and counter-attacked with a jab to his ribs. The air was knocked from his lungs for a brief moment, but he recovered shortly after.

"Because he might have some valuable information that I don't. I know he doesn't remember a lot, but there might be something important there." Steve then went for a kick to my side which I tried to block, but he was too strong so I fell, and immediately got back up ignoring the slight throbbing pain in my hip.

The fight continued for about ten minutes with no words said until Steve had me in a headlock. "Can I ask a favour?" he said while tightening his grip around my neck with his forearm.

I gathered all the momentum I could before I flipped Steve over my head and onto his back, and surprisingly I didn't fall over with him. "Depends what you're asking of me. But sure."

"I know that you and Bucky are in the same boat, and I don't know if it's just me or if it's how you're putting yourself off, but you seem to be handling this whole situation a bit better than he is," he said while trying to catch his breath, "But please don't let him leave here. I know he's going to try - he's done it before. I don't know when, but I know he's going to, and I know nothing I say will get him to stay," he said with a sad look on his beet-red face. My heart immediately stopped. I don't know why but I immediately felt empathy for him. I knew what it felt like to have someone walk out on you unannounced and there was nothing you could do about it. So I had to try.

"I can't guarantee anything. But I'll try my best. I promise," I said. With that, I offered Steve my hand and he grabbed it, but instead of me helping him up, he swept his feet under mine and he had me on my ass in no time.

"Thank you. Really," he said with a genuine smile. "And now we're even," He said with a slight smirk. We both sat up and smiled at each other. We both started to laugh a little.

"Alton! You're still alive! Barnes here had me thinking you were dead." Tony strutted into the gym as arrogant as ever. Shortly behind him was Bucky, I looked at him and I immediately felt a little tense.

"Yes, I'm still alive," I said, slightly offended. "Y'know if any one of us were to kill the other," I said motioning between me and Bucky, "it would most definitely be me... killing him," I said with a smirk. Bucky shot me a questioning look, letting me know that there was going to be some sort of way we would settle the "who would kill who first?" thing without actually killing each other.

"Maya thinks she can access the files we got from the HYDRA base we just came from," Steve interjects, changing the subject.

"Oh really? What can she do that I can't?" Tony asked, clearly offended.

"Know every important name in HYDRA, know the map and location of almost every single HYDRA base in Eastern Europe and the east side of Russia, and personally know the specialist who likely designed the algorithm that's blocking you from viewing that file," I said with a straight face.

"Well okay... that might do it," Tony said in defeat. "Can we try now?"

"Sure," I said. I got out of the ring and grabbed my things. "Let's do it."
