You Get Me | A Bucky Barnes Love Story

Thirty One ~ Here's the Plan

December 8th, 1:00 pm

Maya:

Everything was going as planned so far; Sam, Nat, Wanda, Steve, Vision and Tony had made it to the half-mile radius with Bucky and me being beside them in their path. Dozens of soldiers with white and black suits decorated with the HYDRA symbol on their arms just started to come racing toward the team, and Bucky and I still went unnoticed. We stopped for a second to make sure everyone was okay before Bucky drew my attention away from the fight.

"We should keep moving, get in and out as quick as possible, make it easier for everyone out here," he said in a rushed voice. I only nodded before we both took off in a run. 

Just after a few moments, it occurred to me that I had the ability to make Bucky and me unseen by everyone else and that there was a faster form of transportation I could provide. In mid-run, I grabbed Bucky's arm and phased us into the shadow dimension. "Okay stop for a second?" I asked, but demanded at the same time. Bucky stopped running and gave me a questioning look.

"What is it?" 

"Just hold onto me. I have no idea how bumpy this may get for you," I say. Bucky still questions it but grabs me around my waist anyways as I grip tightly onto his shoulder. The hundreds of shadows cast by the trees give me many options to transport to, but I do my best to head in the general direction of the base. I try to move through each shadow as fast as possible, and the repetition starts to make this easier. 

"Bucky, Maya, what's your status?" I hear Steve say through the comms. Bucky and I don't really have access to reach our comms right now, so I just keep making our way to the HYDRA base - which starts to appear in my vision. I immediately focus on the huge shadow cast by the tall wall the surrounded the base. In just a few seconds we're there. I phase me and Bucky out of the shadow dimension and he looks a bit pale - like he might throw up. We're both trying to catch our breath a little as Steve speaks into the comms once more. "Maya? Bucky? You guys there?" he asks in a more concerned tone.

"We just got to the back of the base," I say, still trying to regain my energy from all the shadow-jumping I just did.

"How'd you guys get there so fast?" I hear Nat interrupt our conversation, and also a grunt from another man whose ass she was probably kicking.

"Two super-soldiers, one with a leading edge prosthetic, and the other with dark and twisty powers. You do the math," I say

"Got it," I hear Nat say, and I laugh a little at her remark. Nat had a way of making life or death situations pretty funny.

After my little giggle, I turn to Bucky, trying to look a bit more serious. "Okay, how do you want to do this?"

"Can't you walk through walls?"

"Good point," I say, then phase us into the shadow dimension again and quickly we walk through the twenty-foot tall concrete wall surrounding the base - much easier than one would think. We then walk through the steel grade door that protects the entrance we were supposed to break in from. Now, all we had to do was find the control room. As Bucky and I wander down the halls, memories start to flash through my head like a slideshow, and I start to get deja vu. I could notice my breathing picking up and I swear my heart was racing so much my chest started to hurt. I felt a hand on my bicep and I attacked right away. 

"Maya!" Bucky says with my forearm pressed into his neck, slightly cutting off his airway. "Maya, you have to calm down. You're okay. I'm here," he says, struggling to remove my arm from his throat and pulling me into a hug. Don't cry don't cry don't cry don't cry damnit! I started to feel the tears pool in my eyes while I wrapped my arms around Bucky's waist. You're okay... you're okay, I kept telling myself. The only thing that was keeping me grounded at the moment was Bucky. Being with him right now made me feel safer, I wouldn't want anyone else to be here going through this with me. My breathing started to slow down and the tears started to flow less. "You're okay Maya," Bucky whispered, then cradled my head, "I got you."
