You Get Me | A Bucky Barnes Love Story

Thirty ~ First Mission

December 7th, 3:20 pm

Bucky:

Steve and I were training in the ring, and this fight had been going on for way too long. I'd pin Steve until he outmaneuvered me, and Steve would then pin me, which I'd also manage to escape from. This cycle had been going on for over half an hour. We could both read each other like books and could anticipate almost every move the other was going to make.

A few minutes later, Maya walked into the gym. "Guys, Tony wants us in the briefing room in five," she said, then walked out. My eyes couldn't help but follow her out the door. Steve obviously saw this.

"You like her?" he asked, with a small smirk on his face, but there was another emotion that I couldn't quite read. His eyes had a little fire to them, a protectiveness, something that told me he'd be angry if I were to say yes.

"No, not like that. I care about her, she's my friend and she understands me," I say, but even I couldn't believe myself even though what I was saying was true.

"You sure?"

"Yes, Steve. I'm sure." I lied and tried to cover it up with a mocking tone. I knew I was lying, even though I thought I was telling the truth. I was completely unsure of how I felt about Maya now that someone was talking about it with me.

"Okay, because I kinda need to talk to you about something," he said. I think I knew what was coming when he said it, but I didn't want to hear it.

"You like her," I assumed, gesturing towards the door Maya had walked just out a few moments ago. Steve only nodded while his cheeks turned a little pink, and the disappointment hit me like a truck, but I had to hide it. I guess it took me a whole other person to make me realize that I liked her.

Holy shit, I like Maya. 

But I couldn't do that to Steve. "You should tell her," I say, still not believing myself. 

"When though?"

"You'll know," I say, patting his shoulder with my right hand. "We should probably head to the briefing room."

I knew I had to let this go as quickly as possible. I'm almost positive that Maya is the first girl Steve is interested in after he lost Peggy. I couldn't do that to him.

3:30 pm

"There's a HYDRA base in Siberia that's apparently been active and Ross wants us to shut it down," Tony says, showing everyone the location of the base on a map. 

"What if this is just like the last time? What if this is just another setup?" Sam asks.

"Facial recognition picked up some of the same people that were found at the base by the Aral Sea. Ross thinks that HYDRA set us up to believe they were operating out of that base, but are actually running their operation in Siberia," Tony responds. 

"So by shutting it down, do you guys mean you're going to blow it up?" Maya asks.

"Yes, but we're all going," interrupts Steve. "Bucky, Maya, you're coming with us, this is your first mission." 

Great. Everyone gets to see the damage that Maya and I can do.

7:00 pm

It was weird trying on my tactical gear again because this time I was on the right side. Even though Tony supposedly added some "upgrades", everything still felt the same - except I'm me, and not the Winter Soldier.
