I finally reached Cambridge and grabbed a taxi to the site. Once there I had a look round the field; numerous holes had been dug, and each had around 10-12 people in and around it. There was a small section with a marquee signposted "media", so I made my way over. Inside there were many different outlets, cameras and radio set ups taking up most of the space, all trying to find out what this sphere thing is.
I stepped in and tried to find a seat, luckily there was one right at the back. And the first gust of wind I realised why it was free; the wind came under the marquee and took the back wall of material with it a little, undoing the knot a little each time it flapped in the wind.
After 10 minutes it finally let go and flapped in the breeze freely. I zipped my coat up a little more a looked outside, grabbing the material so I could tie it back together. But as I did, I noticed a figure wearing a black cloak, by themselves by a zipped tent. The figure seemed to look around before slowly unzipping the tent and going inside. I jumped up and ran over to see what was going on.
I peeked in to see the figure over a glass cabinet. Inside I could see the gem. It was perfectly round, pink in colour with gold flecks and strips that slightly shined in the light. The figure slowly took the top off the cabinet and placed his hand inside.
"Hey!" I shouted, without even thinking. He stopped and looked right over to me. I froze. I wasn't sure where I was going with this, but I grabbed a tray that was on the desk near the entrance of the tent and threw it in his direction. It hit him and also caused him to knock over the cabinet, the sphere rolling out.
I grabbed another tray and ran over, hitting the figure in the face with the tray before grabbing the sphere, dropping the tray and running back out the tent. I grabbed my bag from the back of the media marquee without anyone noticing me before running out of the field.
I found an alleyway where I stopped to catch my breath. I opened my hand to see the little sphere sat there, glowing. An aura of light and shimmer flowed out of it, and as this aura reached the end of my palm some green strands came out the sphere too. They wrapped round my hand as little leaves appeared on the strands as well as small, colourful flowers.
As quickly as they appeared, they disappeared. "What the hell?" I whispered, checking the sphere out a little more. Nothing happened.
I put it back in my bag and made my way back to the field. I sneaked into the tent as everyone was running round in a flap, obviously someone noticed the sphere had gone. I put it back in the tent and left.
After searching round for a hotel for the night, I finally found one and went up to the room. I fell backwards into the bed with a sigh. But as I fell, something poked me in the bum.
"Ow!" I shouted as I jumped up. There was nothing on the bed. So I placed my hand into my jeans back pocket.
And there it was. I pulled out the Rose Sphere. "I put you back" I whispered to it, holding it in the palm of my hand. It did that weird shimmery thing again, wrapping round my whole hand and wrist, both were covered in the glittery, green, flowery stems. One stem even carried on up my arm, twisting round and round, until it got to my shoulder and it moved over to my chest and stopped on my heart. It slowly disappeared again, as if it was travelling into my chest. "I guess you're mine now?"
It glittered in a way that made it seem as though it was replying "yes".
"Great. Just great."
