Chapter 14

Amara P.O.V

Fuck. Fuck. Fuck! Is all that i could say as I flew down the stairs. Why the hell was Rico here anyway. Ughh I really need to get my shit together. When i got to the foyer Rico was standing there with the biggest smile and two vanilla ice cream cones. Okay hes in a good mood so I assume he hasnt ran into Darius yet.

"How you doing beautiful?" He said pulling me into a hug.

"Im fine thanks, what made you stop by?"

"Well I talked to D earlier and he told me you were here locked away in your room and i just decided to surprise you with ice cream." That really made me smile big. Why does he seem so damn perfect.

"That was really sweet of you Rico, but-"

"Iight Amara im gone,  Ill talk to you later." August pulled me into a hug and kissed my forehead making sure to eye Rico.

"Oh ok um Bye Aug." I said nervously.

August eyed Rico one last time before he disappeared out the door. Rico's facial expression was.. Blank. I couldn't read him what so ever.

"Look,  before we get into anything to serious I may as well tell you that I do have a male best friend nothing more nothing less." His face still lacked emotion.

"Look babygirl,  whatever you got going on is your business. Thanks for letting me know that though." He smiled big again.

"Why are you smiling so hard? " I chuckled.

"Because you thinking about getting serious with me." He said nonchalantly licking his ice cream. I laughed.

"Only if you play you cards right." I said taking my cone from his hand. He chuckled.

"Well how about you let me show you how I deal my cards.. Come take a walk with me."

"Okay let me go put my shoes on."

On my way to my room i bumped into Darius. He looked at me and shook his head.

"Darius, wait." I tried my best to whisper. He turned around and gave me his attention. "Please dont tell Rico." I pleaded.

"You need to get yo shit together Mara, That is a married man you cant be fuckin with him and as for my brother you need to tell him wassup before shit get too hectic. Dont hurt my brother on some real shit he already been through enough with you hoes." He bumped past me and walked into the bedroom he shared with Tamia.

Everything he said was right. I need to distance myself from August but it was just something about him that attracted me to him. I walked into my bedroom and put on my nike slides,grabbed my phone and my keys. When i walked back downstairs Rico was sitting out side on the porch texting on his phone.

"Ready?" I asked. He gave me that million dollar smile.

"Yeah lets go."

Rico P.O.V

When I saw dude coming from upstairs im not gon lie it took me back for a minute. But at the same time me and Amara just chillin right now and plus thats her business. Im just focused on getting to know her better. While Amara was upstairs my Ex Renna texted me.

Renna: I know im the last person you expected to hear from but my mother is throwing a welcome home party for Corey and she really wants you to be there."

That really put me in a tough dilemma. Corey was my best friend growing up. He got locked up for a robbery that we both took part in but he took the fall for me because he had faith that I was going to make it playing ball. I was so hyped to see my boy again after 6 years but at the same time I really didnt want to see Renna.

Me: Fine.. Ill be there TO SEE COREY

After my last text she didnt respond back. That girl is something else. I would be lying if i said i didnt still love her because I do. Although i caught her in our home with another man i really do want to apologize for putting my hands on her. I wasnt raised that way but when you see the love of your life betraying you and hurting you.. You just snap. I guess its true what they say,  love will make you do crazy things.

Amara and I walked the near by bike trail. Damn she was so beautiful and it was just something about this fall weather thag made her ever prettier.

"So whats your greatest fear?" She asked me. This was a real difficult question for me.

"I dont fear anything." My voice lacked emotion.

"Come on now you gotta fear something.." I just shook my head.

"Nah,  I done been through so much it just sort of made me immune to fearing anything. What about you, whats your grestest fear?" We stopped at a bench and sat down.

"Well," She put her head down and splayed with her fingers. "My biggest fear was always losing my mother but I lost her couple years back. Then i feared of losing the love of my life, but i lost him too." She trailed off. "But I lost him before he even passed away." she shook her head. I rubbed her back to show her that she could go on.

August P.O.V

I ran into my house with the ice cream in my hands. I swear Ky was going to kill me. I walked into our bedroom and she had the meaniest mug on her face. While I was at Amara's Ky texted me a full paragraph in graphic detail of how she was going to kill me if she dont get her ice cream. The baby got aher talking crazy.

"What the hell took you so long?"

"I had to go all the way to Jewels because Walmart didnt have it." I quickly made up a lie. Damn.  Ive never lied to her before.

"Mhm." she said grabbing the carton of ice cream. "Mmmmm. " said while putting a spoon full in her mouth. I shook my head and chuckled. I plopped down next to her our bed and cuddled uo next to her wrapping my arms around her waist and placing my head on her tummy. Bella kicked me right in my eye. I guess i deserved that.

"August.. " Ky said calmly.

"Yeah bae." I said rubbing my eye. My daughter got a strong ass leg.

"Why do you smell like perfume?"

Oh shit. Damn those stronger pregnancy senses!
