"Well, I saw him several times. George brought him along sometimes. And I didn't expect that you know each other." Mom explains.
"Oh."
"I know it sounds weird but yeah, most of the time, I am his plus one. Wait, it doesn't sound that good but that's the fact." William shrugs.
George adds, "I just want him to know some of my friends. That's all."
"Okay, that explains everything. At least I have a friend here, right?"
"Gladly, yes. And me too." William nods his head.
We all talk for a few minutes and I started to get to know Mom's friends surprisingly. After exchanging some words, we decide to get some food to eat. I follow Mom to get something and luckily all of them looks delicious. I could eat everything I think. I'm not that picky when it comes to food.
When I'm satisfied with what I have on my plate, I go to our table first. When I sit, I see only William is there with his food waiting for his Dad I think while looking at his phone.
"You waiting for you Dad?" I put my plate beside his and take a seat.
"No, I'm waiting for you actually. I don't think he's going to come any sooner." He puts his phone in his pocket again.
"Oh, okay then. I think we should eat first." I take a sip of the tea that I took just now.
We eat silently at first but I don't like that silence. So I decided to be more friendly.
"So, if you join this kind of event, you'll eat alone?" I take a bite of my sandwich. I'm not kidding, I should take more of this sandwich.
"Most of the time, I don't eat. I just walking around, talking to his friends, or checking on my phone if I do nothing. Then, go to nearest McD before going back home." He stops eating and looks at me while talking.
I nod, "Well, that's not so healthy. Since you are an athlete. But I guess you're still healthy even after those nights though."
"Yeah, but you know my exercise sure can handle that." He then take a bite of the same sandwich I ate just now. "Wait, this is so good." He points to the sandwich in his hand.
"Right? I almost finish it in one bite."
"These food taste better because I have someone to eat with." I just nod and smile at his comment and continue eating.
Suddenly, I remember about my Mom. She is still not here even after I finished half of my food. I look around to search for her.
"Your Mom is there. She's talking to her friends. My Dad also there." William suddenly shows me where my Mom is. I must be obviously looking for her.
I look at her direction and saw her talking and laughing at what her friends saying. Just something makes me wonder. She seems like closer to George than I know.
"Is your Dad and my Mom are that close?" I ask William.
"Basically, yes. Every time we went to events, we must be sitting at the same table and they are surely closer than I thought. I just never know that she is your Mom."
"Really? I guess she doesn't tell me yet about that."
I look at them and I can see how happy she is. It's not that she is never happy but I swear she looks so happy right now. I just smile and happy she is surrounded with people she loves.
I have some talks with William and some of Mom's friends here and there. Shockingly I can survive even without my mother beside me all the time. I'm glad my social is getting better anyway.
