Royce was a firm believer in the power of the words and thus far in his life there hadn't been a situation that he hadn't been able to solve using his wit. That was until they had arrived on the strange island that was now somewhat part of who they were.

Still, as they faced the terrifying giants one part of him still believed that if he could only understand them fully, their wants and needs (besides eating their flesh) he was pretty sure that a solution could be found.

However, before he had the chance to think of a way out, there was a huge hand heading straight towards him. It was incomprehensible to him how something so familiar could at the same time be so new and odd just because it was much larger than expected.

It was as if he was hypnotized by the oddity of it all, the hand, the strange sensation that overwhelmed him and that led to him meekly accepting his fate. At that moment with the enormous hand bloating out the sun it seemed as if his fate would be the one of being squashed up by a giant and drank up like children would drink up a juice on a straw.

What he failed to notice was that the other hands were scooping up the others and once he realized what had happened he was already tightly gripped in the giant's strong hand, unable to help Jade and the others in any way. A thought occurred to him that maybe that being picked up by the giants wasn't such a bad thing.

Since they were closer to the giants' heads it would be easier for the giants to hear them. The only problem with his reasoning and a silver of optimism was the fact that he had no idea what he could tell them to stop them from eating all of them in one bite.

Some odd ideas crossed his mind. Telling them that they were sick or that their meet was rough were just some of them. However, nothing sounded like the right thing to say. Never in his life had he had to think of a way to stop someone from eating him.

It felt like the ultimate challenge for his persuasion skills. Their lives depended on them since there was no power strong enough to set them free from the giants' firm grip. With the stakes so high, Royce felt like a failure for having no ideas on how to deal with them, what approach to take.

"They are so thin. There isn't much meat on their bones." The male giant said.

As he said that he poked Royce with his pinky finger and Royce barely stopped himself from exclaiming in pain. It didn't seem like the pain was the giant's intention but still, the gigantic pinky finger felt like a fist to Royce's gut.

"That's okay, I can make us a delicious human stew. Maybe with a bit of mushrooms and the right seasoning, we can have ourselves a delicious stew with just enough human meat to add to the flavor." The female giant said.

That gave Royce a crazy idea but having in mind that the others were just trying to pry themselves out of the giants' hands in vain, it was obvious that it was up to him to talk them out of trouble. What she had said gave him an idea and he didn't care how insane it was, he was ready to use whatever he could to stop them from becoming the main course.

"I do apologize for interrupting your riveting conversation, but I am afraid that we are not as delicious as you think. You see, back in our human world, we used to eat a lot of junk food which has made us extremely unhealthy. You don't want to put something as unhealthy as that in your bodies, do you?" Royce said.

He was the most shocked when he finished his statement because he was aware of how ridiculous their situation was. It was his job for the time being to plead their case so as not to be eaten by the giants.

"I like this one. Can I keep it as a pet?" The female giant asked.

"Leidr, my dear, you know how awful humans are as pets. Remember that one who bit you and tried to escape while you stood there frozen in shock. Or the one who used a small fork we gave him for his food to kill himself." The male giant said.

Leidr's face fell and she started pouting like a small child being denied its favorite toy. It was such an odd expression to see on such an enormous face.

Royce was pretty sure that they weren't as ugly as they appeared to him. But from the up-close, the giants looked even more like the zombies than the human being and the pouting expression on Leidr's face made the situation worse.

"You are right Koraz, it's best not to play with one's food or keep it as pets. It would be best to just cook them up and get it over with." Leidr said.

"Ahem, don't you care about a healthy diet. If you eat us your body weight shall increase enormously and you would never be able to go back to the perfect weight you have now." Royce said.

The other humans were shocked at what Royce was doing. He was after all gambling all of their lives, but having no other option the others didn't interfere in the conversation. Even the ever annoyed Ignacio stayed quite.

Having played a lot of poker in his youth, Royce was very well familiar with bluffing but the stakes had never been that high. This was one game he had to win, for Jade, for all of them.

"This one sure is sneaky," Koraz said.

However, it was obvious that his words made Leidr think about the possibility. It was interesting to note that females of most species took care of their weight and what they ingested.

That was when she leaned in close to her partner and started whispering something in his ear. Royce could see Koraz shaking his head in denial but after that, her speech became even more animated and finally, he started nodding his head.

"Of course we were just joking with you humans. We would never dare break the Law and attack you, even though you are on our land, served up like a nice delicious treat..." Koraz said.

At that moment Leidr nudged him hard and he snapped out of contemplating how scrumptious the human meat could truly be. Instead, he refocused on the point he was trying to make before he was distracted by the food's delicious smell.

"We let all the unhealthy humans, I mean all the humans pass through our land unharmed so you will not be an exception. We just wanted to have a nice laugh." Koraz said.

They lowered them down slowly and started laughing as if threatening to eat someone was the best joke ever. Even Royce who was usually calm and collected had problems not snapping something rude at the due but he knew that would be playing with fire so he kept his mouth shut.

Instead, the humans hurried off in the direction they were headed before they were so rudely interrupted by the giants. They couldn't wait to leave the giants' forest behind them and once they did they just took a moment to breathe not paying any attention to where they were as long as they were out of giant land.
