A Second Chance at love

Chapter 1: Reality BITES!

"Ugh!! Did anyone get the license number of that truck that hit me?" Christina groaned holding her head.

"Shhh lay still Chrissy, you need your rest." Katie admonished her best friend. "I'll page the nurse and let her know you are conscious."

After Katie paged the nurse, she brushed Chrissy's hair from her face and squeezed her hand. The nurse and a doctor came in and talked to Chrissy as they checked her and her vital signs and after a few minutes they left her to rest.

"Katie--Please tell me what is going on." Chrissy asked her friend.

"You and I had been at the mall with Emma and then we went to my mom's place afterwards, I headed down to the family room to find a movie for us to watch while you fed Emma and changed her. Next thing I knew, I heard you screaming." Katie told her. "I ran up the stairs and as I rounded the corner I saw you fall over the railing from up by the bedroom and down the stairs." she added.

"Jake was standing peering over the railing and then he ran past me and out the door, I called 911 and while the paramedics checked on you and Emma who was in your arms the whole time, I gave the cops a great description of Jake and what he was wearing not to mention his car and the license plate number." Katie went on.

" I rode with the two of you here to the hospital, and have been sitting by your bed ever since- they gave you a sedative after you got here and were checked out by the doctors, they said you wouldn't be able to sleep otherwise."

"Oh My God!" is Emma ok?" Chrissy asked as what Katie said began to sink in.

"She is fine." by some miracle she only sustained a couple bruises. "my mom is taking care of her right now for you."

" How Jake could do that to you and his precious 2 week old daughter is beyond me." Katie spat.

Chrissy went on to find out she herself had suffered several cuts, bumps and bruise, along with bruised ribs a broken left ankle and a totally blown out left knee and a concussion.

"Katie" Chrissy said, "he may be your brother, but Jake has nasty temper at times though he's never done anything like that to me before-he usually yells and gets in my face--in fact he left me when I was 5months pregnant, said he can't have kids and showed me the paperwork to prove it, called me a lying whore and walked out."

Katie just nodded and the two of them talked and once Chrissy dropped of to dreamland again, Katie grabbed the address book from her friends purse and ran to the pay phone to call someone she knew cared about Chrissy-she just hoped that Chrissy wouldn't be mad at her and that she was doing the right thing.

Chrissy's "friend" was furious when he heard what happened and said he was on the next flight to Boston, he told Katie he would call her with flight info ASAP.

Katie hung up the receiver and took the elevator back to her friends room and pondered what she had just done, she knew she shouldn't meddle in her friends life, but, she couldn't bear to see her get hurt again by some other loser.
