Foetal Tests

Jack and Nikki take a seat in the Doctor's office, "Hi, I'm Dr. Iain Ruairidh" He smiles as he leans over the desk and shakes Nikki's hand, "And you are?" he adds as he looks at Jack.
"Jack Hodgson, I'm her fiance and father of the baby" Jack smiles as he shakes Dr. Ruairidh's hand.

"So I see you have been transferred here from Hamilton Ash General Hospital, and they have requested you have, a foetalechocardiography," Dr. Ruairidh smiles looking at his notes.
"Yes, that is correct" Nikki smiles.
"So first off Nicola, we want to take a few measurements of the baby and take blood from yourself and take blood pressure" He begins and Nikki nods removing her cardigan and standing up as Dr. Ruairidh guides her to the examination bed.

Nikki smiles across at Jack as she sits upright on the examination bed, she sits there quietly as a nurse comes into the room to help with the examination, "This is Nicola, she has been referred for a foetal echocardiography, after what has happened to the maternity team at Hamilton Ash recently" Dr. Ruairidh begins, "Nicola, this is Nurse Louise Maguire" he adds.

Nikki smiles as they begin to run tests, Jack comes and stands by her as soon as they ask Nikki to lie down on the bed and roll her top up, "First off I am just going to measure the fetus to make sure that baby is up to the correct standards for 27 +4 weeks," The nurse smiles as Dr. Ruairidh washes his hands and rolls up the sleeves of his shirt.

Soon as they have measured the baby the Doctor gets down to scanning the baby and also prepares the echocardiogram machine, the nurse tucks some tissue into Nikki's waistband of her trousers to prevent the gel spreading. The Doctor places the probe down and presses around on her stomach. "here we go, the baby is approximately 14 inches, Nurse, can you just feel for the head again please," Dr. Ruairidh speaks.

The nurse leans over Nikki slightly and presses either side of her bump and feels for the head, she presses and pushes which causes Nikki to flinch as its uncomfortable for her. "Head is down and engaged," Nurse Maguire says before moving away from Nikki.

"Okay, that would be the reason the image isn't that clear, the baby is currently back to back with the mother, will you note this please," Dr. Ruairidh tells the nurse as she types in shorthand on her iPad.

Nikki looks up at Jack and smiles slightly, "What does that mean?" Jack questions quietly to Nikki referring back to the head is engaged.
She laughs at him and rolls her eyes, "It just means the baby's head is sat in my pelvis now, ready for birth" Nikki replies quietly trying not to disturb the Doctor.

Nurse Maguire hands Nikki some tissues to wipe off her bump at the end of the normal scan while Dr. Ruairidh prepares for the foetal echocardiography.
