Waiting for You

Maddison is now 5 months old and is starting to catch up other babies at her age with weight and length, although recently Maddison has mastered the art of sitting up for short periods of time without being supported and now rolls over which she finds funny as Nikki has ended up stopping her falling from the bed when she's been laid on it.
Today is Jack and Nikki's three-year anniversary, although Nikki doesn't think Jack has anything planned for her and that she will be having a quiet night in.

Jack is currently sat in the Lyell Labs, recovering prints from a possible murder weapon, Clarissa is sat opposite him running other prints through the database. "So What are you and Nikki up to this weekend?" Clarissa smiles looking up from her computer.

"I'm surprising her with a weekend away, at a hotel and Spa in Oxfordshire. Without the girls" Jack smiles looking up from his work also.
"Oh right? When do you treat me to that special treatment?" Clarissa questions.
"It's our three year anniversary, today. She deserves it... putting up with me" He smirks and carefully removes the now extracted prints from the machine.

"Oh, right I see how this is... I've put up with you for ten years... ten years" She smirks watching Jack.
"More like I should be rewarded for putting up with you, remind me again who got you this job?" Jack laughs and rolls his eyes at his friend.

Clarissa chuckles and smirks, "I'm surprised you two have lasted as long as you have, I mean there are plenty of men out there with better pay grades than you that she could have her pick of, longest relationship if I'm right?" She speaks.

Jack laughs and gets up and grabs some paperwork before sitting back down, "I don't understand how we've lasted so long, although she won't tell me when she wants to get married" Jack responds with a sigh.

"She never does commitment well, must have been a big leap for her to have a baby with you then let you move in and then have another baby together" Clarissa speaks reminiscing on Jack and Nikki when they were first together.

Around 4 pm that day Nikki walks into the Lyell child-free looking really confused, she is first greeted by Clarissa, "Nikki, you're looking well" Clarissa smiles as she looks up from her computer to see Nikki walking into the offices dressed very casual which she's not used to seeing her like when in the Lyell.

"Hi, thank you, you're looking well too... Where's Jack?" She questions.
"Erm... I think he's in the mortuary with Thomas, he shouldn't be much longer" Clarissa explains and Nikki nods and sits herself down at Jack's desk and smiles across at Clarissa.

Nikki sits waiting slightly spinning from side to side in his chair, "So where are Poppy and Maddison?" Clarissa asks as she attempts to make a conversation with Nikki.
"Jack brought the Nanny back in, he said that the girls need to get into the routine of the Nanny before I come back to work" Nikki explains with a small smile appearing on her face.

"When are you due back?" Clarissa asks.
"Well Thomas originally told me that I could come back when Maddison is six months old, so that's next month although I might see if I can come back part-time until she's a year old and I can settle her into a proper nursery so the nanny old has to watch the girls on weekends if we're working or after school" Nikki smiles as she explains her plans to Clarissa in deeper detail.

Soon Jack arrives back into the office with Harry and Thomas, "Nikki" Jack smiles happily to see her, he walks over to her and Nikki stands up thinking he's going to hug her but he walks straight past her and grabs something off the printer. Nikki turns to look at him and smiles awkwardly before looking at Thomas and Harry and smiling at them.
"I'm going to go wait downstairs and get a coffee" Nikki smiles awkwardly as she feels like she is intruding on something.

She walks away and heads outside of the lab, she dresses the button which releases the door and she walks outside, Jack rolls his eyes, "One minute, I'm just going to talk to her, let her know we're not quite finished," He speaks and then runs to catch up with Nikki.
