High school...

Not all of us are prepared, but in the end it's something that we can't escape. The start of my high school year was filled with so much excitement, a fresh start, new classes, new friends, something only others can dream of.

Majority of my friends went to the same school, the six of us, Maria, Irene, Abby, and I were as close as you could imagine. Sure we had ups and downs in our friendship but it was something we got through together, and something we were planning to continue in high school.

I got to go to the Get-Ready program and tour the school a week before classes started, and it was a good way to familiarize myself with the unfamiliar building, I could never be too prepared.

Students all over the district register to this school for what it's known for, it's Studies program. These programs range from arts, independent studies, charity work and many more. I was lucky enough to be part of the feeder schools, and accepted into their Advanced programs for Math, English and Science, it's a good opportunity for me to challenge myself. And lucky enough Irene took the program too, we just had to hope we were ready.

I'm waiting for Maria to meet at my house so we can start walking to the school and a few minutes later I see her coming towards me. I exit and smile softly at her and I start walking to her as we head our way. In some ways I could have been more enthusiastic with greeting her, but I'm not a type of person to show affection. I easily get uncomfortable with hugging and I like being alone a lot.

"So...are you excited to see him again?" Maria smirks at me and I lightly punch her arm and playfully roll my eyes. There was a boy named Andrew that has been friends with me since we were little, I haven't seen him all summer so I was excited to catch up. "Come on, you know there's nothing going on between us, we're just friends." I tell her smiling. "If you say so..." Mar has a habit with trying to get me to date people I don't like that way, I care about Andrew but Im not looking for a relationship right now.

Letting go of the teasing she started telling me about her summer. We chatted for the whole ten minute walk and once we were in front of the school, Irene was waiting in front of the school signalling for us to hurry up.

Once we catch up to her we enter the school, I took a huge intake of breathe looking amazed at how big it is. Nothing less of it's prestigious title.

Once enter you see a huge matrix, spacious area leading to the gym, music and wood shop classes. Second floor consists of religion, English, business and media arts. The third floor having the largest amounts of classes contain math, science, geography, history, arts, fashion and many more that I couldn't possible name them all.

My favourite edition to the school would be the music hall, the music program is something I cherish, I may have an ambition for academics but my passion for music is just as important to me. I'm taking music this semester and I'm really excited to try it out. The Music hall consists of four doors, two being the music classes, the auditorium and one that leads to the cafeteria. The academy may be known for its academic programs but it's arts programs are just as impressive.

An addition to the hall is the flags that are hung from above, all the different countries represented adds an aesthetic and welcoming touch.

The preparation week consisted of us touring the school and finding our lockers and classes. I separate from Marie and Irene so I can go ahead to find my locker, I get my schedule and lock, then head to the second floor. Okay, 2336, that shouldn't be too hard to find..

After a couple a minutes I finally feel like I'm going to find it.

2298..2298..2299...2400??

"How are these lockers organized?" I mutter to myself as I contemplate how I'm going to find my way to my locker now.

"Need some help?" Recognizing the voice I smile seeing it's Andrew.

"Yes actually, I'm having trouble finding my locker, do you think you could help a friend out?" Andrew chuckles then takes my schedule and leads the way.

Andrew and I have known each other for years, so being with him casually wasn't a big deal to us, we got some stares but I couldn't care less. We talked about our summers, while I buried myself in books and he spent spent his vacation hanging out with his friends.

"There you go, 2236, the classes and hallways are a bit confusing, but you'll figure it out eventually. See you later Kiara." Andrew starts to run off before I could thank him, but I shrug it off and start to unpack my things. I have binders, notebooks, calendars and extra socks (courtesy of my mom), I felt proud of how prepared I felt by the end of the week.

Goodbye childhood and Hello to High school, there's bound to be setbacks, there's going to be drama, and I hope that in the end I'll still be the same person so sure of herself of this milestone.

A/N: Hi Readers! I hope you all enjoyed this special introduction to Life of A High School Student. Since I'm a student myself I thought it would be good to do this type of story, this read was inspired by the book cover I made. I was looking for ideas and it just suddenly came to me. It was really good idea to me so I wanted to get working on it right away. I realized my first book Running From You is not finished yet, but I hope to complete it soon so I can solely focus on this book. Thank you for taking the time to give this story a chance and please feel free to comment any feedback and vote, Happy Reading!
