April 9th, 2019...
Considering there's only a few weeks until United Relay, our group decided to hold an unofficial "audition" with some of our classmates and friends after school to add 1-4 members on our team. But before that, all current groups competing in June were asked to meet after school in the school's cafeteria to discuss some important aspects of the event.
Since Mari and Jake had afterschool activities while Irene had to go home early today, it was just Andrew, Dante and I attending the meeting for our team.
3:12
I agreed to meet the two inside the cafeteria, so once classes finished for the day I gathers my belongings from my locker and headed downstairs.
When I arrive, I freeze seeing that no one else had come yet and I was early, meaning I would have to awkwardly sit by myself waiting for Dante and Jake.
I pace back and fourth in a panicked state in front of the entrance looking nervous, but deciding to just get this over with, I enter the cafeteria, only to see Dante already sitting down with Andrew.
Taken aback by their punctual behaviour, I walk towards the two sitting across from where they are and greet them politely.
"You both are early."
Andrew snickers at my comment and motions me to come closer to him so he could whisper in my ear.
"Dante over here was worried you would be too shy to sit by yourself, so he made us rush downstairs INSTEAD of the elevator with his crutches. Passing all the teachers and students to get here before you." He points to the brunette beside him and I stare at him giving him a stern look.
Sometimes he surprises me with his consideration and caring nature, but also with his ignorance and stubbornness.
Dante looks up from his phone giving me a grin.
"So...what do you guys think this team meeting is about?" He asks.
Andrew and I both shrug our shoulders.
"Who knows, but we seriously should have thought this through much more when we were registering." I shake my head trying to forget about the embarrassment we had when we were applying our current group to United Relay facing a lot of Problems.
When Mari and I were signing in on behalf of all of us during lunch, since she registered first she was automatically assigned as our team leader.
Although this sounds fine, Maria was a mess as I did my best to help with her responsibilities and tasks. Even her friends had laughed when they heard she was our leader, considering her own realization of her inability to make us work cooperatively and together as one. Everyone had thought that I should have registered first and had been leader, but since we had no idea there was one in the first place, we didn't think it through and it had happened to be her.
The boys' shiver thinking back on what I had said about it, and they were just as concerned having Mari be the leader, more so than Mari herself.
Before we could continue talking Mr. Loli, the head of our School's Math Department and the staff member responsible of the relay coughs into his microphone, garnering everyone's attention in the room.
"Good Afternoon Students. As you all know, you are all here to be given instructions on what to further do before the relay. We will commence in a few seconds starting with what we expect of you on that day."
Mr. Loli continued to banter on about how we were expected to be at school early in the morning, participate in events all day, and to always have someone jogging around the set-up track for your team.
