February 1st, 2020...
After the sudden postponement last week, our first and second classes were all delayed, meaning that all of our schedules had been pushed back until February 1st.
Luckily, I managed to get most of my exams over with and now I'm currently at home alone getting ready for my final one..
Throughout the week, a lot of worrisome thoughts clouded my mind.
"What if I messed up?"
"What if I failed?"
"What if my future is ruined?"
"What if the grades become detrimental for my university plans?"
I stayed up late a lot of the time because I couldn't bring myself to sleep when I was so paranoid of what the next morning would bring.
But luckily, I usually rested well enough.
Today, I had my math exam so I walked to school early so I could enter the class and review some formulas before the exams officially started.
My desk was at the far side of the room right beside the window, so it was nice to have the view right next to me when I would take tests.
I see one of my friend's Jillian enter the class and I give her a small wave and she sits into the desk to the right of me.
"Good Morning Kiara!" The blonde girl said to me gleefully.
"Hey Jill, are you ready for the exam today?" I asked her.
Jillian and I met during orientation, she was very friendly and approachable so we became friends' easily.
"Yep! I'm just going to get in to my exam mode for the next few minutes. By the way, There's a guy asking for you outside the classroom. Kiara why didn't you tell me Dante was your boyfriend?"
My eyes suddenly widened—staring at her as if she's crazy.
"What are you talking about?" I pressed her to answer.
"He's right there, specifically asking for, my girlfriend at the very back of the room with the beautiful eyes...." Jillian exclaimed gesturing quotation marks with her fingers.
My face suddenly turns red and I have to remind myself to breath.
When I get either angry, flustered, embarrassed or surprised I have the habit of forgetting to breathe—which results in blood rushing to my face and causing it to turn bright red/pink.
After regulating my heart beat, I turn my head and just as Jillian said, the brunette is waiting against at a wall smirking signally me to come.
Sighing, I tell her I'll be right back and walk outside the classroom to talk to him.
As soon as I exit he approaches me but I put out my hand stopping him and cross my arms.
"Really?"
"Well...I didn't lie, I just forgot the soon-to-be part girlfriend. You aren't too mad though right? I'm sorryyy..." Dante gives me his best puppy eyes and I have to look away.
"Please...don't do that. I have to go back to reviewing. Don't you have your French exam today? If you fail that class you'll have to repeat it." I told him truthfully.
"Pfft...I'm not going to fail, I just came by to see my good luck charm." Dante suddenly gives me a quick hug and stunned—I slowly return the embrace.
"A good luck charm will only ever do you so much good." I told him truthfully.
"I'll take my chances."
I look behind him seeing my teacher approach and quickly I pull away waving to her and she smiles at me giving me a m wave.
"Okay seriously Dante go now. I'll see you later after the exam." I start pushing him softly to his classroom and sighing he starts walking away giving me a smile. I return to the classroom 15 minutes before the exam started.
Once the clock started running, I decided to do the test in order—and if anytime I wasn't sure of my answer I would go back to it at the end.
Each question I had to be perfect with—one miscalculation and my answer will be wrong.
I focused solely on the papers in front of me, making sure I didn't get side-tracked.
My sleepless nights would not be in vain!
I made sure to pace myself, doing all the homework and review helped me a lot with being familiar with the type of questions that were asked.
I really had difficulty with math this year since I was in an advanced class—but my dad helped me review and work on what I was confused about so I would be fully prepared.
I usually study for tests, except math. Since doing all the work for the class was sufficient enough, it's important to ask any question and to be resourceful. But that won't always work and I will have to work harder.
By the time I finished rereading my final calculations, I looked at the clock seeing there was 2 minutes left and sighed in relief putting my head down.
I successfully completed my exams.
Despite wishing I had no regrets there were a few I had.
• I performed my music piece flawlessly
• I Felt confident in my Math ExamBut:
• I didn't have enough time to write a good essay for my English
• And I didn't study enough for my P.E. Exam thinking it was easy, but I realized— you could never be too careful. The transition from Elementary to High-school was difficult, but getting through the first semester I see myself getting used to it. You can never fully prepare yourself, and that's completely alright. I'm learning to accept it.
It's going to be harder, more stress and difficult. But with the right mindset I know I'm capable of succeeding.
"Okay class! Time's Up. Please hand-in your exam and exit the classroom." The teacher said.
I handed in my exam and headed to my locker to put away my things, and to my astonishment—Dante was already there waiting for me...
"You're here early..." I muttered to him while putting in the combination and getting my back.
"It's time to celebrate! I can't believe exams are over, at least until another 5 months..." He said excitedly.
I playfully roll my eyes and turn around to face him.
"It's still early, do you want to go get some food with the others?"
I checked the clock seeing that it was still only 11:45 am and looked back at him.
Dante smirked at me shrugging his shoulders—putting his hands in his jean pocket. He nodded and followed behind me as I started walking outside to meet with the others.
"By the way, why were you already at my locker? Isn't your class on the third floor?" I asked.
"Finished the exam and was let out five minutes early. You highly underestimate me Kiara, I'm a French Speaking Pro." He chuckles and I playfully roll my eyes at him as we see Andrew and Jake already outside waiting for us.
Once Irene and Mari joins us we start walking towards the shop—when all of a sudden I feel shivers and I yawn.
Although it would be nice to go straight back home and into my bed, but this is a good opportunity to actually socialize with the outside world...
I'll rest when I can, and for now I'll enjoy these precious moments.
