May 21st, 2019...
I'm not typically a person who likes to go shopping. Usually I just wear whatever I find in my closet. I guess though, that won't suffice this time, considering how Important this event is.
Since the dance was soon and I still haven't gotten my dress yet, I was forced by Maria and Irene to go with them to the mall to get it.
My mom would be accompanying us there, so I found it relieving that at least she was would there.
Ever since I was young I never took an interest in picking out my own clothing, my mom would just buy without my input and I would wear it all, with no complaining.
I was grateful for everything she had given me, so I figured she has the right to decide what she buys for me with her own money. At times, she did want my opinion on certain clothing pieces, but I would rarely comment on it and assured her that everything she gave me was perfect.
The dress I will wear for the school's dance is important. Although no one will recognize me except close friends I do think I should at least look presentable.
Maria and Irene were more than exciting to get their gowns, they already had an idea of what colours they wanted. Mari wanted a shade of light purple while Irene decided to go with black.
For me, I'm considering either blue, red or dark green, but I shouldn't finalize that yet since I need to see the options first.
I was in the passenger seat of my mom's car while she drove to pick up Irene and Maria at a nearby stop sign that their streets intersect at.
"Kiara?"
My head turned around to see my mom's stern face. I tilt my head and furrow my eyebrows.
"Is there something wrong mom?" I asked, feeling more nervous than I've ever been.
She sighed, "Don't get your heart broken, okay? It's too Much struggle to deal with. I won't tell you how to live your life, I just don't want you to have any regrets." My mom said giving me a uncertain look as she directed her attention back to driving.
"Of course! I know what you're thinking, but we will never know what might happen in the future. I promise, I'm getting closer to happiness every day, and I'm stronger because of you." I said giving her a small smile.
I could see her trying to hide her grin, but eventually she gave up doing that and had a gleeful expression throughout the ride.
It's crazy to think I'm in this position, the fact that he asked me to go and that I said yes.
My insides were churning as he I tried to take my mind off it, but my mind is constantly replaying his smiles.
"Hey What's up!"
I snap my head towards my back and I see Irene and Mari sitting there smiling at me. I give them a gleeful expression and we talk about a few things while going on our ride.
"So...has anyone asked you two yet to the dance?" I asked the both of them and they immediately turn red.
"Well, it doesn't matter right? It's not like it's a big deal! Just because you're going with someone doesn't mean we have to." María said, being a hypocrite considering that Jake asked her and she accepted.
I turn towards the brunette and give her a questioning look. "What about you Rena?" I said using her nickname.
She shrugged her shoulders and shook her head, and I turn around hiding the smirk on my mouth.
I may or may have not been helping Andrew out with this "promposal"
He's currently waiting for us at the front of a store with this giant sign with her name on it.
It was pretty exciting, so hopefully everything goes well.
My mom dropped us off at the front and we bid her goodbye as we would meet her inside.
Irene seemed kind of distracted staring at her phone often, so I lightly nudged her to get her attention.
She looked up at me and I pointed towards something from afar.
At first she had no idea, what it was. She stepped closer to it squinting her eyes and she immediately looked shocked seeing it there right in front of her.
I saw Andrew slowly sneaking behind her and I gave a small smile before telling María to give them some privacy.
We went to the first store and I tried on many dresses that made me feel uncomfortable. I never liked revealing clothing, so I was looking for something more to my preferences.
I noticed a gown across the room and quickly I rushed towards it. It was ruby red at knee-length and looked like a good fit for my size.
Before anyone had a chance I grabbed it and dashed into the change room to try it on.
Once I exited I saw Mari waiting for me patiently already with a shopping bag in her hand.
Her mouth gaped wide and she squealed as I awkwardly walked towards her with the gown on.
"You look gorgeous!" She said happily and smiled looking down at the gown.
"It's a nice colour, and I adore the layers of the dress." I told her as I playfully spun around for her.
"Can I see yours?" I asked her.
She shook her head and grinned evilly.
"Nope. It's a surprise." Mari said as she started walking away.
"Wait! I'm your best friend, not your date! You can tell me." I said trying to catch up to her.
"Jake is your cousin! You'll definitely slip up what it looks like." She exclaimed as she tucked it deeper inside her bag and hid it from my view.
"I won't! I prom-AH!" I stopped in my tracks realizing that I still had the dress on and I was about to pass the alarm system inside the store.
Taking a deep breath, I went inside the change room to pay for it and I'm met with Maria stifling her laughter after witnessing the close call I had earlier.
I gave her a glare and told her we should meet up with the Irene. Nodding in agreement she followed behind me, and we went without only exchanging a few words.
It was crazy, but still it was a new experience. Many more to come in the future...
