June 10th, 2019....
There's only about two weeks of school left, meaning it's that time of year again...
Final Projects and Exams.
As expected, everyone was rushing to finish, submit and study for everything before the school year ends. Well, most people.
"Ugh! Why is high school so difficult?!" The brunette beside me groaned in annoyance, placing his forehead on top the notebook he was writing in.
I giggled softly and lightly nudged him with the end of my pencil — trying to get him to focus.
"Dante come on! You are doing really well, you promised that we would do our work together before we went to the movie theatre." I said crossing my arms at him.
Although I did want to originally go with him, I completely forgot we had our performance tasks due and they were worth about 10-15% of our final marks. In that moment Dante wasn't thinking and suggested that we would finish some of our work before we left. Which led us to be here in the school's library.
We were both in bean bag chairs in a secluded area, so not a lot of people would see or hear a lot of what we were saying.
I place my laptop on top of my knees and started researching some review for my science project.
This year, my chosen topic was the in-felt analysis of the genetic cloning of animals. I found this to be very interesting and I knew a way to connect this to what we were learning in Biology.
Dante was busy typing out His English essay for Cold Mountain. He had chosen this book after my recommendation, but now he's regretting as I saw he was having so much trouble writing It.
"Ugh! Why couldn't I have just watched the movie! It would have been so much easier..." He said irritated of the workload he had.
I had gotten the book earlier this year for my Advanced English class, once Dante showed me the list of optional books to do I immediately recommended him this one, but seeing how long it was — he is most likely regretting this now. I love reading, but he doesn't.
I took in a deep breath before pulling up a website from my laptop.
"Here...you could use this to help. It basically summarizes what's happened in the story every 1-2 chapters. It will help you with finding important notes on your essay. Als–Hey!!" Before I could finish my sentence he snatches my laptop away from me and jumps back onto his beanbag.
"Hmm..I see. Very resourceful." He smirked while continuing to scroll down the website.
I roll my eyes and stand up walking towards him, "Come On Dante, I have to work too. Use the school computers, they're right over there." I told him pointing to the far end of the room.
"But I like yours better! Please just a few minutes. I'll give it back right after. Besides by the time I'm able to log in the library will be closed...." Dante said with his best puppy eyes.
Looking at him act so innocent, I sigh and nod much to my dismay. He jumps up and down excitedly before I pick up my science book from the nearby coffee table so I can look over some review questions.
He did have a point. Our school computers require us to have our student logins inputted. With everyone using the wifi right now, it wouldn't be shocking if the devices were taking too long to load. The only reason my laptop was an exception to this was because it was connected to my phone's cellular data.
After giving a him a few minutes uninterrupted, true to his word Dante returned my laptop after looking through the chapter summaries.
Checking the time on the clock, my eyes widened and I start standing up in an instant.
"We should get going soon." I told him as I started to pack up my book.
"Hey why don't we stop by the cafeteria and get some food? We have about 10 minutes left we could make it...". Immediately after he said this I heard a sudden growling coming from the pit of his stomach. I laughed softly at him and he looked away in embarrassment.
"Alright...but I only have $2.00, I'll just buy a bottle of water so I'll go with you." I exclaimed walking outside the library by his side.
He took out his $20.00 bill and showed it to me.
"I'll pay for both of us, we can buy some Jamaican patties. I know you love them..." He said in a melodic tone.
I reluctantly agreed at the sound of patties. I had recently started eating them and I enjoyed them a lot, Dante noticing this because I often expressed how much I liked them.
We had arrived at the cafeteria and once we got our food we sat at one of the lunch tables, a lot of the students already had gone, but the cafeteria was usually opened for another hour after classes.
I ate in small bites, constantly glancing at the brunette in front of me who was scrolling on his phone.
"You don't need anything from your locker right?"
He shook his head and I turned away awkwardly to start packing my stuff.
Dante noticed my shyness and put his phone away.
"Are you ready to go?" He asked seeing I was almost done my food.
"Yeah...I am."
He offered to carry my books for me and although I politely declined. Dante didn't take no for an answer and took them out of my arms despite my protests.
I had mentioned earlier that I was starting to get back pain because of how heavy my backpack was with my binders and textbooks, so he must be concerned.
Looking at the clock, I realized we would be late to the premiere if we were here for any longer.
"Let's go!"
I grab Dante's hand and start running outside the building, completely forgetting how much of a couple we did look in that moment.
After a whole school year, freshmen year is almost over. Why does it feel as if it's going by so quickly?
