Romeo's POV~
It was Tessy who greeted us once we got home, sitting on the doorstep probably playing doodle jump on her phone until we showed up. The day was as cold as any other, clouds drearing overhead with the threat of more rain thus inevitably colder nights. Just the sight of sky and the crispy cool air kissing my skin made me want to ignore everthing and everyone just to go hide under the covers.
"Aha, there you two are!" She smiled, jumping to her feet. "Now let me in before I freeze my tits off."
"Yeah, yeah, whatever." Orion scoffed. He took out his house key to unlock the apartment. "What are you doing here?"
"Waiting for you to let me in, now hurry the eff up."
I stayed quiet as he opened the door and let his sister in first before we did. Being last, I closed and locked it then took a seat on the sofa to at least be present. Luckily, we kept a blanket there so I bundled myself up and leaned against the arm.
Orion kicked off his shoes and sat beside me, feet propped up on the coffee table. "So what's up?"
Taking her claim over the armchair as usual, she set her purse in her lap and withdrew two small, wrapped boxes just big enough for one hand each (unless you had some freakishly large hands). "I decided that -even though it's early- I wanted to wish you both a happy early birthday." She gave a small smirk, thrusting both mystery objects towards up respectively. "I used some of my own saved up money to buy these for ya."
Curious, I took the one that was for me and quickly began hypothesizing in my head what the thing could be. Is this...? What is this?
Orion was frowning a little and began unwrapping his, so, as to not wanting to be left behind (it was plain we both had the same thing) I did too.
Much to my surprise, I wasn't fazed in the least to discover that beneath the plain blue wrapping was none other than a new phone. A 2014 Android, Samsung Galaxy Note 4. Complete with a stylus, a screen protector, 64gb SanDisk and even a gift card likely aimed for buying a phone case.
React. React. Why can't I react. I should be happy, right? But why does this just feel so weird? I have no need for a new phone and this feels a bit extreme for an out-of-the-blue gift. My lips pursed as words lined up in my head only to rearrange, change their minds then rearrange again. "Wh... uh..."
"What are these for?" Orion asked for me, no longer looking at the expensive gift but now frowning upon his older sister.
Tessy just smiled. "I felt like buying you guys some new phones. I mean why not? Your model is what, three years old? Wouldn't mind much of a change, would ya? And, I mean, yours did get smashed."
"I guess so... I did here that this is a pretty good model."
It might have just been me, but the way that their expressions and eyes conversed was like a seperate conversation from their words. Maybe I'm just crazy. Just overthinking things again. My eyelids felt heavy anyways and my body still felt a bit cold despite the sweater, hoodie and blanket. "Thanks, T." I finally said, not wanting to feel like I was just some phantom in the room.
She shot me a smile and nodded. "No problem, Romeo~. So. Have you been making sure this stubborn brother of mine is taking the doc's rules seriously?"
