Chapter (28):

Madeline quickly went to look for her sister for help, she didn't expect to see William now, she didn't even get the chance to tell Wren the truth. She saw Rose in the kitchen with Mike and Vanessa and she rushed to them.

"Hey Rose, I need to talk to you. Now!" Rose noticed the panic look on her face, so she took her sister's hand and rushed with her outside the kitchen.

"Okay, what' the matter?"

"William is here" Tears started forming in her eyes.

"Have you told Wren?"

"No, I didn't get the chance to. He is here with dad and I know she found out because she looked at me and she was angry. I don't know what to do Rose, please help me" Tears rolled down her cheeks and her sister wiped them with her thumb and started stroking her hair to calm her down.

"Easy, easy" She shushed her. "Tell her by yourself, tell her that you love her not William. Everything will be okay"

They all sat in front of the bonfire after dinner and Wren was sipping her beer trying not to show her sadness and despair, William was talking with Joseph sitting next to Madeline who was staring at the fire wishing if the fire could take her away.

"Attention everyone" said Joseph. "I would like to propose a toast to Madeline and William. These two young lovers knew each other from a very long time and it has time to tie the knot. William, son, welcome to the family. Cheers!"

He raised his glass and so did the rest but Wren just drank the whole bottle and she couldn't take it anymore especially when she saw William kiss Madeline's cheek and she faked a smile. She stood up excusing herself by saying that she felt tired. Madeline also excused herself and ran after her but Wren already reached the door of her room locking the door behind her.

Madeline went to her room, her eyes were already glassy and she tried to control her shaky body and her shaky breath. She knocked on the door and expected to see the cold side of Wren.

"Wren! Please open up!" She knocked again. "Please let me explain!" She covered her mouth before letting out a sob. "Please!"

The door swung open and a crying Wren with red eyes was looking at her. "What do you want?" she asked harshly.

"I want you to hear me out"

"Hear you out?" She scoffed. "I think I've heard enough today"

She tried to close the door but Madeline resisted and pushed the door back. She entered and faced Wren with her teary eyes.

"I miss Henry, I wanna see my old pal" said Joseph.

"I'm sure he is too" said Eleanor sipping her drink. "Oh! Thanks for reminding me, he wanted to talk to me earlier about something" She looked for her phone but couldn't find it. "Where is my phone?"

"Maybe you forgot it in your room" said Lena.

"Maybe" She stood up. "I'm gonna look for it in my room and Hey! Save me some of this cake"

She headed to her room smiling at her clumsiness but heard an argument that made her stop in her tracks.

"You'll have to listen to me, okay?" she said sternly and Wren crossed her arms. "I was about to tell you the whole truth today but William came out of nowhere an-"

"Today? I think that was a little bit too late, don't you think?" She scoffed and looked away from her then back to her with dagger eyes. "Madeline you are engaged! Were you going to tell Dave when you were together or were you gonna keep it a secret from him like you did to me? Hmm?"
