Stevie laid back on the soft mattress in the medical room where the ultrasounds were being done. She was glad it was set up cosier than a hospital, the walls were a warm beige instead of pure white and she naturally felt more at ease, she had gotten quite used to the scans but felt a little insecure as Mick sat beside her, she still worried a lot about the drugs and withdrawals affecting the baby  "So you are the father?" The nurse asked as she got everything ready and opened a tube of gel in her hands.

"Yes, its my first time seeing the baby, after she gets out of here, I want her to live with me because I am getting sober and so are my best friends too so we can all provide a good, supportive and healthy home environment for Stevie!" Mick smiled and gently grabbed hold of Stevie's petite hand and she felt her heart and soul warm at how sweet Mick was being.

"That's very good because she needs a lot of care still and support for a long time after she gets out of here also because we cant really prescribe her much because of the pregnancy but she is coping very well but, no serious decisions for at least a year, so its good you are standing by her and the baby, most men run a mile and the women end up relapsing but she has already shown great determination, we don't get many pregnant women so she is very determined  to care for this child!" The nurse smiled, feeling a great deal of respect for Stevie, most of the staff had warmed to her because she was just that type of person and they admired how driven she was for the sake of her child.

"She is a wonderful and special woman and I am excited to have her back with me!" Mick smiled and squeezed her hand causing her to blush and giggle and the nurse smiled at them, she could tell how in love them seemed.

"She is recovering very well too from the withdrawals, one of our easiest patients here for sure, I think its all about wanting to change and having something to change for and the baby is healthy too according to the previous scan which is remarkable!" The nurse smiled "Can you lift up your dress please, I need to apply the gel?" she asked Stevie.

Stevie nodded and lifted up her floral cosy dress, then the nurse applied the blue tinged gel onto Stevie's stomach and spread it with the transducer "We get to see the baby soon!" Stevie smiled at Mick, looking at the screen a mix of nerves and excitement.

"We should be able to pick up the heartbeat again too if the baby is laying in the right position!" The nurse explained.

"I hope I get to hear it!" Mick grinned.

"You should be able too!" the nurse smiled.

"The little heartbeat is so cute Mick and its so strong already!" Stevie beamed.

"There is the baby!" The nurse smiled pointing to the screen after moving the transducer around on Stevie's stomach and resting it under her belly button.

"Wow, its so little, but I can see every little part of it, look at the little hands and feet!" Mick excitedly smiled.

"I know!" Stevie gushed "I love them so much already, our little baby!" She giggled, the same tears forming in her eyes, not of sadness but overwhelming love and the need to protect her baby also the guilt that she still felt over her past pregnancy, but she was trying to focus on the future like her therapist in the facility had told her.

"The baby still looks healthy and has grown to almost a normal sized baby for its age already so that is very good!"  The nurse smiled then Mick watched as she did something and soon the sound of the baby's little heartbeat filled the room "The heartbeat is still strong too, its a good thing you found out so early on, it gave the best chance possible for the baby!" She smiled at Stevie who was grinning in awe.

"That's amazing, it has such a clear heartbeat!" Mick smiled "Do you know the gender yet?"

"I was thinking about waiting a while!" Stevie smiled shyly.

"That's ok, its a surprise, our special little surprised!" Mick grinned and kissed Stevie softly on the lips and she smiled at him happily.
