Christine watched John's hand, warmed and soothed by his kind gesture and acceptance over the pregnancy, but she still just didn't feel any peace of mind over it at all, she was worried she would accept it all, tell Stevie and Mick, then miscarry anyway or Stevie would end up hating her, John would leave her and her whole world would crumble around her, she had never been so worried before but she tried to mask it better, she didn't like anyone, even John seeing her as having a soft side "I am fine and thank you Johnny, but we better get back out there for Stevie, she needs more support than silly old me does!" Christine chuckled, patting John's hand and then walking her way over to the door.
John knew she was pushing him away, but he decided to try and have another go at calming her after the dinner and he hoped maybe a nice meal would help her relax more, as well as some time with Stevie and Mick too "Alright love, lets go out there then!" He smiled and followed her closely.
"I can't believe how hungry I am, this baby sure loves food, I have never eaten this much in, well since forever!" Stevie chuckled loudly, already sat at the table beside Mick who was beaming at her, his eyes lit up as he looked at her and Christine and John both smiled, Mick had never looked at someone like that before, he literally looked at Stevie like she was his entire world which just made Christine feel worse because she didn't want to ruin that "You pair have to try to the food, its lovely!" Stevie giggled, seeing the McVie's nearing the table and she was still too happy in her own little bubble to notice how something was amiss.
"We will all make sure you and that little hungry baby get all the food in the world!" Mick beamed and leant over, laying kisses in Stevie's hair and she burst into a fit of giggles, then turning her head and kissing him playfully on the lips and then the two kissed passionately, so happy to be in a relationship, slow but an actual relationship and they both felt happy, caught up in their own little joyous realm with their own baby on the way, feeling happy too for once, Stevie was completely sober and Mick was the soberest he had been since he was a teenager.
John rested his hand on the middle of Christine's back, knowing how hard it was for her to see them so happy because he knew she was in internal panic over crushing that with her own unexpected pregnancy and he was more worried about Christine's mental state because he was sure that Mick and Stevie could withstand the news of the pregnancy, everyone could see how Mick and Stevie had the best kind of love and how they bought out the best in eachother and also supported eachother at the same time and John had never seen either of them so happy, Mick hadn't been that happy with Jenny, not even when she had been pregnancy with Amelia and Lucy and he had sure never seen Stevie ever that happy with Lindsey.
"Well come on you pair, come and eat before Stevie and our baby eat it all!" Mick chuckled after the long kiss with Stevie as he looked at John and Christine who were still stood trying not to look as awkward and stressed as they felt.
"Hey!" Stevie chuckled and nudged Mick, giggling as she started eating again.
John pulled a chair out for Christine because he also wanted her to eat something so her and the baby remained healthy and he was trying to help her keep acting like everything was alright because he hoped Mick wouldn't ask him what was wrong again, he didn't know how long he would be able to lie to his best friend.
Christine gave her most convincing smile and chuckle, she was so happy for both Stevie and Mick, but she felt like a time bomb that would ruin their romance and that made her feel sick, she didn't even want to eat but sat down anyway "So how are you feeling sweetheart?" She asked Stevie trying her best to just focus on her best friend.
"Wonderful and just hungry!" Stevie chuckled, smiling widely as she still felt bursting with happiness.
"That's good then, you better get as much food in you as possible before Mick eats it all!" John laughed and Mick shook his head while Stevie started giggling again.
"Hey, I don't even eat that much, only when I get the...." Mick then paused, worried to mention his usual state after some pot smoking in front of Stevie in case it made her upset.
"When you get the munchies?" Stevie giggled, looking at him and grinning and he nodded shyly.
"Yes, I hope I didn't like make you want a joint or anything!" He then said nervously.
"No, awww Mick, you are so sweet, I am really fine though, after I saw our baby on the scan, I didn't want or even crave anything so don't be scared, this little one changed my life!" Stevie gushed, giggling as she rubbed her tiny baby bump "Now I have you and our own little baby on the way, how could I crave some silly drugs when I have this gorgeous little family of mine with a new addition on the way!" Stevie beamed and giggled glancing at Mick, John and Christine and then down at her stomach.
Christine smiled but felt like she was exploding inside with guilt, Stevie was like a young starry eyed dreamer again, like the innocent girl she had been when she first joined Fleetwood Mac and Christine worried so much she would send her back into being the gold dust woman that Stevie had referred to herself as after all the stress and drugs had taken their toll on her before her pregnancy, Christine then heard the haunting lyrics in her own mind while she watched Mick, rubbing Stevie's stomach as Stevie gushed about the baby.
Rock on gold dust woman
Take your silver spoon
Dig your grave
Heartless challenge
Pick your path and I'll pray
Wake up in the morning
See your sunrise loves to go down
Lousy lovers pick their prey
But they never cry out loud
Cry out
Did she make you cry
Make you break down
Shatter your illusions of love
And is it over now do you know how
Pick up the pieces and go home.
Christine felt herself clenching her jaw so hard it was hurting as she tried to forget the lyrics that were banging through her mind "Chris!" Stevie suddenly said happily, pulling Christine from her trapped thoughts "Come and feel the baby before you start eating, I think I can feel it moving and I want you to feel!" Stevie beamed.
