John pressed a soft kiss to Christine's forehead while still holding her hand as she lifted her shirt up shakily with the opposite one as the nurse got the ultrasound machine ready, then a tube of gel "Sorry for such a personal question but have you ever been pregnant before Mrs McVie?" She asked, unscrewing the lid of the tube.
"Not that I am aware of. There was times I suspected I may have been, but nothing came of it!" Christine stated, feeling her heart rate speeding up as she became even more concerned.
"That's very normal then, some women can have miscarriages before they even realise they are pregnant and just write it off as a heavy period. Have you and Mr McVie been trying for a child?" She asked smiling as she squirted out some of the blue and green tinged translucent gel onto Christine's stomach and she looked at John as the words still hurt her.
"No, we haven't but we are accepting of the baby and we are happy about it if she is still pregnant!" John smiled back, rubbing his thumb over the top of Christine's hand and in that moment, she felt even more guilty for the one night stand with Mick, John was so loving and supportive to her, so much more like he was when they first married.
"That's good then, I am about to the scan and I still have strong feelings that the baby is ok, slight bleeding is very normal, as well as cramping, it just means implantation bleeding, which means in an easy explanation that the egg is forming into a foetus instead of being flushed out of your body!" The nurse said and picked up the transducer, gently spreading the gel all over Christine's stomach.
"Foetus?" John asked while Christine just stared at the screen, all confused at what she was seeing on it, she had never seen a scan before, she knew Stevie had one when she had her abortion but Stevie had refused Christine to even come in with her and she mostly felt heartbreak for Stevie in that moment and she wished she had been there more for her in the past, she still felt bad about everything and felt like a lousy friend.
"A forming baby!" The nurse smiled as she glided the odd looking device all over Christine's stomach and then held it under her belly button "I'm also sorry its taking a while, I suspect from your HCG reading the blood test that the pregnancy is very new, probably just over a month or so!" She explained.
"That timing is right then if its still there!" Christine replied and gulped as she looked at John who smiled lovingly at her.
"Stop stressing, love!" He smiled and kissed her lips softly, wishing she didn't feel so bad over the one night stand still, he had plenty of his own in their time apart and wished she wasn't eternally at war with herself over a completely drug induced one that she couldn't even remember.
"I'm trying!" She smiled softly back and gave his hand a gentle squeeze, then darted her eyes back to the screen.
"And there it is!" The nurse beamed happily as she very gently put more pressure on the transducer "There is your baby, its small but its still there and you are very early, but its showing and I predict that it is around the six week mark!" She explained.
"Are you sure its a baby?" Christine asked, her voice a bit shaky as tears welled up in her eyes, all from a wild mix of emotions.
"Yes, for sure it its, see that!" The nurse smiled and pointed to the little blob that showed on the screen, already resembling a small human "That's the head!" She smiled happily "You are still pregnant Mrs McVie and the baby appears very healthy, just a little on the small side but that can be normal, gathering you are a member of Fleetwood Mac, I am not judging or assuming but you probably are not living the best lifestyle which is very normal!"
"You are right, she isn't, but she has been trying and thank you so much for being so wonderful to us about the baby!" John stated and laid another kiss on Christine's forehead.
"You are very welcome and I will get some pictures printed out, everything seems fine with the baby so far too, but regular check ups is what is needed and so is a healthy diet, rest and gentle exercise, we also will run some more tests and mail them all to your doctor!" The nurse smiled "Its too early to pick up a heartbeat yet but it all seems ok, so don't stress too much!" The nurse smiled and pulled the transducer away before gently wiping the gel off Christine's stomach "I will let you pair process the news while I do some quick paperwork and within half an hour you can go home and put your feet up, you should pamper your wife now, Mr McVie!" The nurse giggled and winked before pushing the machine away and closing the curtain.
Christine then let out a little sigh before looking at John "I'm pregnant!" She stated, trying to take any type of emotion from her voice until she knew how he felt, truly now the time had come to accept and embrace the result of her one night stand with Mick.
"I know Chris and its all gonna be ok!" John smiled, wanting to be as supportive to her as he possibly could because he knew how confused she was about it all "how do you feel?" He asked as she pulled her shirt down, unable to look at him.
"Glad the baby is ok but I wish so much it was yours!" She stammered, feeling her voice choke up with unshed tears.
"Don't cry, honey, its there and it doesn't matter, it will kind of have two fathers I guess, Mick as the biological one and me as the one who will be there all the time, it also already has a sibling that Stevie is carrying, so we can all make this work, I love you and I love the baby already too!" John smiled and gently cupped her face and she looked up at him.
"Oh John!" She exclaimed and started crying and he quickly hugged her best he could, rubbing her back to sooth her.
"It will be alright Chris!" He cooed.
