trigger warning: panic attack

The two boys look at each other, unaware of what to say. They had feelings for one another, but they had never spoke about making it official, they hadn't even confessed any feelings. So in unison, they both said,

"No."

"Oh okay."  Chris looked away.

"What if we were?" Tyler eyeballed his father.

"You'd have to break up." He said flatly.

"Why's that, father?" Tyler said, coldly.

"Because you are marrying the princess." He didn't look at Tyler.

"Have you not wrapped it around your brain that I'm gay. You cannot change that, and it won't change, if I marry the princess." Tyler argued.

"But she is the princess!" Chris yelled, he finally looked at Tyler.

This caused Josh to panic even more, his hand was still wrapped in Tyler's, squeezing, but he squeezed harder.

Tyler noticed, and this calmed him down.

"Dad. I will not talk about this right now. Joshua cannot and will not suffer because of your stupidity. We are leaving. I will see you all tomorrow," And he whispered this last part, "That is, if I come back." Tyler took Josh's hand, and they both went outside.

Josh sat down, and leaned against the house. He shut his eyes as tight as he could, and he pulled at his hair. While this was happening, Tyler was saying soothing words and phrases to him.

"Hey, it's okay. You're gonna be fine. I promise. I appreciate you, Josh." Tyler ran his left hand through Josh's dyed hair, holding his hand with the other.

"It's alright, love. I'm here. I'm gonna help you through this." He kissed Josh on his forehead, in attempt to calm him down. And it did, visibly at least.

———

After Josh calmed down, they walked around the village, talking.

"Where are you gonna go?" Josh asked, still a little razzled.

"I, honestly, have no idea where I'm gonna stay." Tyler shrugged.

"You could come home with me." He offered.

"I don't wanna bother you." Tyler declined, even though he really wanted to.

"No, I don't mind. I'm positive my dad won't either." Josh smiled.

"I....o-okay." He accepted.

"Well let's go get Jerry and Squid." Josh sighed.

"His name is Squirtle." Tyler corrected.

"Whatever, same thing." Josh giggled.

"They are two separate things." Tyler said.

———

"Will your pack like me?" Tyler wondered.

They had been riding their horses for a while now.

"Of course they will. They will be afraid of you at first, just because fairies scare us, but they'll warm up to you." Josh said.

"Also, about my parents, I'm really sorry about what happened." Tyler said with empathy.

"It wasn't your fault, don't be sorry." Josh argued.

"Still. I shouldn't have let it get that bad. I should've stopped it. But I kept going." Tyler shook his head.

"You were just taking up for yourself, don't beat yourself up for it." Josh smiled at him.
