What Howling?

As he opens his eyes, the sun beams shining through the window, blind him.

Yawning, he starts to wake up, realizing Jay was already awake.

Smelling breakfast, he goes to his shared bathroom, brushes his teeth and tries to calm his bed-head.

Walking down the stairs, he sees his whole family at the table.

"Well, nice of you to finally join us." Chris says looking up from his newspaper.

"Heh, yeah, sorry about that." Tyler flushes

"Since the incident last night, I'm not going to allow you to go to the treehouse with the kids today. I've already talked to their parents, they agree." Kelly says, making Tyler a plate with toast and fruit.

Tyler takes the plate shoving the toast in his mouth, "What are you talking about? Nothing happened last night, I got them home before dark? I did everything they asked?" He replied, cocking his head.

"No honey, you did nothing wrong. It's the howling last night thats has us all scared. We don't know how close, or even if it's still around. But we'd rather be safe than sorry." His mom explained

"Huh? What howling?" Tyler said even more confused, taking another bite out of his toast.

"You didn't hear it? Everyone has been talking about it, it's all over the village? And don't talk with your mouth full." Chris questioned

"I-I guess I was so tired and out of it, I didn't hear it." The brunette explains, swallowing the toast, still confused.

"Am I allowed to go explore?" He asked, finishing off his toast.

Kelly furrowed her eyebrows, "Not until we know it's safe. You know the dangers of werewolves."

"That's no fair." Tyler whined

"Well life's not fair." Chris shot back at him.

"But I wanna go and enjoy nature. You guys always stay inside and do nothing all day." He complains

"I am supposed to protect every fairy in my village. That includes you. Now stop complaining and stay inside." His dad commands.

Tyler sighs, "Fine."

His dad must have been crazy. He should know Tyler isn't gonna stay inside. Tyler has always been a good kid, but nothing is gonna get in his way of exploring and enjoying nature. So he went upstairs, waited a few minutes and snuck out the window. It obviously wasn't the easiest task, but with wings, it wasn't hard.

-Time Skip-

15 minutes walking through the woods, he hears a twig snap behind him. Quickly turning his head in the direction of the noise.

Nothing being there, he mutters to himself, "It's just in your imagination Tyler, don't be scared." He breathes in and out and continues his way down the path. If something was there they'd know he was scared by the color of his aura, purple. Even if you weren't educated in fairies or magics, you'd know what purple means.

About 5 minutes later, he senses something. If something had snapped that twig earlier, he didn't sense it, but now he knows for sure something is in his presence. He stops mid-step.

"Who's there?" He shouts

No response.

He repeated, "I can feel your presence, don't hide."

He heard a growl, then turned around.

And, woah.

He didn't know if he was dreaming or not, so he pinched the inside of his hand.
