"He was really scared of me." Tyler said, confused.

"He doesn't have good experiences with your kind." Josh explained.

"Do you know what happened? Maybe I could help him. Or tell him not all fairies are like that." Tyler asked.

"The only thing I know is that some fairy threatened to wipe out the entire species of us. I don't know anything else. Or about the other experiences. And obviously since he is the Alpha, that would be awful." Josh shrugged.

"I'm sorry about whatever they have done to terrorize you and your kind." Tyler said, with sincerity.

"Nothing has really happened to me. The only fairy I have come across is you. And then your village." Josh shook his head.

"You were scared. The first time we met. I saw your hands shaking, and you were sweating, a lot. Your eyes, they held so much fear. Like you were watching your family get murdered right in front of you. And your anxiety, covered my mind when I was looking at your aura. It swallowed me whole. And, I felt, like, like I couldn't breathe." Tyler recalled the memory.

"Because of the stories my pack have told. You terrified me. When I saw you, I thought I was dead. I thought I was gonna end up like my mom." Josh spewed.

"But you said your mom died of an illness?" Tyler was confused.

"Well technically, she did. She fell ill, and then got attacked by a fairy. That pulled the strings, and she couldn't recover from it. The fairy put a spell on her. They didn't hurt her physically, but they put some unknown spell on her." Josh held back some tears, he didn't want to cry in front of Tyler for the second time today.

"Oh. What even started the war between our kinds?" Tyler tried to change the subject smoothly, and he was successful.

"I don't know. I've heard that each thought one was superior than the other. And suddenly one war led to the next, and now we are supposed to hate each other." Josh said.

"That sucks." Tyler said.

Josh chuckled, "Yeah, it does. A lot."

Tyler looked around the room. It was plain. There were grey walls, stripped bedsheets and matching pillows, a bedside table that had a black lamp on it, and a black desk in the corner with a spinny chair sitting at it.

"Yeah, I know. My room isn't much." Josh notice Tyler looking at his room and he looked embarrassed.

"No, no. I like it. It matches you." Tyler tried to compliment him.

"What do you mean?" Josh cocked his head.

"It's mysterious. Like you. But I bet that there is at least a pop of color somewhere. Because even though you look mysterious on the outside, your just a big goof ball." Tyler smiled crookedly.

Josh found that adorable, "Yeah, your smile lights up this whole room."

"Oh stop it." Tyler playfully pushed him, his face tinted pink.

"I'm serious though. I could be having the worst day, and if I saw you smile, my day would become better, no matter what." Josh looked into the other's sparkling eyes.

"Yeah, me too." Tyler said, and Josh chuckled.

"Your day would become better if you saw yourself smile?" Josh grinned at him.

"Oh you know what I mean." Tyler smiled wider.

"I'm sorry, but I'm afraid I don't." Josh said.

"You feel like home to me. You make me feel happy n' stuff. And not just because your my first real friend. You understand what I'm saying and if you don't, you ask me to elaborate. And," Tyler paused, not sure if he was ready or not.

He decided he was and continued, "And I like you. Not just like you though. I like like you. Like my mom likes my dad."

Josh took this in, amazed that Tyler felt the same way he did, but Tyler didn't know this, so he panicked.

"Oh no. You don't like me back do you? Oh my goodness, I'm so so sorry. I'll leave if you want." Tyler rushed.

"No, Tyler." Josh said. He didn't hear him while he was panicking though,

"Ugh, I'm so stupid. Why would you like me back. Gah, I am so sorry." Tyler felt mortified.

Josh grabbed his arm, "Tyler. Stop."

That got his attention, and he looked at Josh.

"Yes, Tyler, I like you. Like like you." Josh smiled at him.

"You do?" Tyler looked in his eyes for any sort of lie, and he found none.

"Yeah, I do." Josh said.

"Oh thank god. I really thought I just ruined our friendship." Tyler felt relaxed.

"I don't think you could've ruined it." Josh shook his head.

"I just confessed my feelings. You sure that wouldn't have ruined anything?" He raised his eyebrow.

"It might have been a little awkward. But we'd probably still be friends." Josh admitted.

"I'm so glad you like me back." His cheeks hurt from smiling hard.

"You are? Me too." Josh smiled too.

"Yeah. My best friend becomes my lover. How cliche." Tyler said.

"Those two girls you read to, Pepper and Mia, they asked me if we were dating, and I said no. Then they asked me if I thought you were pretty. And I told them you were very pretty." Josh recalled the moment.

"I'm not pretty at all.I wish I was. How on earth do you like me though?" Tyler asked.

"Because, you like me for me. You talk to me openly. You absolutely stunning. And you don't mind that our kinds are at war." Josh said.

Tyler then thought of something, "My dad will hate me. And he's gonna try to keep us apart."

"Then we'll be smarter than him. All he knows is that we aren't dating. He doesn't know we just confessed to one another. So we could figure something out, couldn't we?" Josh thought.

"Yeah, but my dad, he is wise. But if we are one step ahead of him, we can do it. Plus my mom, you know how she is. If we are ahead of my dad, we are definitely gonna be ahead of her." Tyler nodded.

"So what exactly is our plan if we are gonna hide this from them?"
