"she can ride with me" i tell nia and sam as they try to figure out car seating arrangements for sophia for dinner tonight . johnson decided we should all go out to eat and catch up since it's been so long that we've all been out together. despite the awkwardness between me and jack, i'd love to catch up with everyone one. johnson was right, it's been so long. we should be over the break up and not let it effect us when we're with our friends. we should work on being friends again. "i thought you were riding with us?" sam furrows his eyebrows. "i'll just take my own car, sophia can ride with me and then nate, johnson and jack can ride with you guy. it's no big deal at all. if we all rode in one car it'd be way too crammed and on top of that, illegal." i laugh and they sigh. "but i don't want you to feel left out of anything" nia winces. "i won't, i'll be fine. i'll get her ready too so you guys can go pick jack and jj up from their house and i'll meet up with you guys there at eight." i plan.
"and you're completely sure?" nia asks me one more time. "i'm positive." i reassure her. her eyes wander over to sophia and she sighs. "what if i rode with you? i want to make sure she's ready" she raises her eyebrows, letting her motherly instincts kick in. "nia she will be fine. you guys deserve a small break." i tell her with a laugh. she sighs once again. "nate...sam...take her to the car" i instruct as i point to the front door. the both walk over to her and start to pick her up. "her out fit is on top of her dresser. the white shoes and not the pink ones." she gets out quickly before they have her out the door. "she'll be perfect, i promise." i smile as they shut the door. ____
"mommy's going to think you're so cute." i talk in a baby voice to sophia. she stares at me blankly making me wonder why i'm even bothering to do it. she's five months old, she's not going to understand. i laugh a little at my stupidity and gently get her out of her car seat. "do you miss mommy and daddy?" i ask her as i look down at her with a wide smile earning a small, toothless one from her. when she smiles she looks like sam. it suits her.
"let's go find them" i smile and start to walk while holding her in one arm with her diaper bag on the other. i walk up to the restaurants doors and look around until i finally spot them making a satisfied smile form on my face. it looked as if they had just gotten here too from how they were all standing around the table talking. "hi guysss" i beam at them earning smiles from all around. "jack, look it's sophia" johnson gasps, pointing at her in awe. i smile at him and jack looks over at me. his gaze lingers on me for a slight second before pulling his attention to her and making his way over to us from the other side of the table.
"wow, she looks just like you nia" he says like it was unbelievable as he looks down at her. leaning down to be eye level with her, he holds his pointer finger out for her. naturally, she clasps onto it making him smile. his eyes wander up to mine as he holds his smile, it slowly fades and he stands up again as he lets out an awkward filled cough. "um.. do you want to hold her?" i ask him, trying to be nice and break the tension between us as everyone else took a seat. "can i?" he asks earning a quick nod from me. "of course, just don't look nervous while you do it... nia will kill you." i laugh, attempting to lighten the mood some. it gets a small smile out of him and i nod awkwardly. "right so.. here" i say lightly as i hand her over to him, already missing holding her. i can't even imagine how nia feels when she can't hold her. i've only known her for a few days and i'm already completely attached, i can't imagine five months. i'm just glad i'm going to be closer. i'll get to be with sophia more and i'll be able to see all of my friends and family that i've missed so much.
