Y/N POV
We were all in the Great Hall for the feast to begin the new year.

I wasn't hungry but I forced myself to eat so I don't feel hungry later on.

Draco wasn't eating at all. I could tell he was lost in his thoughts.

"Draco, you should eat. You need to have something in your system." I advised and he picked at his food.

He took a piece of bread and ate it.
"Good. At least I know you ate something." I tell him. He chuckled under his breath and tried to continue eating.

Dumbledore started his speech.
"Very best of evening to you all. First off, let me introduce the newest member of our staff, Horace Slughorn."

Most of the students clapped.

"Professor Slughorn, I'm happy to say, has agreed to resume his old post as Potions Master. Meanwhile, the post of Defense Against The Dark Arts will be taken by Professor Snape." Dumbledore advised.

"Snape?" I heard some of the students ask themselves.

Snape had always wanted to take the Defense Against The Dark Arts post. Now he has it.
What an achievement, I guess.
I take a bite of my chicken leg.

"As you know, each and every one of you was searched upon your arrival here tonight. And you have the right to know why. Once there was a young man, who, like you sat in this very hall, walked this castle's corridors, slept under its roof. He seemed to all the world a student like any other. His name? Tom Riddle. Today, of course, he'd his known all over the world by a another name. Which is why, as I stand looking out upon you all tonight, I'm reminded of a sobering fact. Every day, every hour, this very minute, perhaps, dark forces tempt to penetrate this castle's walls. But in the end, their greatest weapon Is You. Just something to think about. Now, off to bed. Pip-pip."

That was something to think about. The Dark Lord used to be a normal boy who used to live here in this castle.

Anyone of us could become somewhat like him. With just enough ambition and determination.

I didn't realize almost everyone was gone.
We stood up and left.

At Potions class...

"Attention to detail in the preparation is the prerequisite of all planning." Slughorn explains as he was doing his lesson.

The door opened.
My attention turned to the door.
It was Potter and Weasley.

"Harry, my boy, I was beginning to worry. We've brought someone with us, I see." Slughorn says.

"Ron Weasley, sir. But I'm dead awful at potions, a menace, actually. So I'm gonna-"

Weasley turns to leave but Potter blocks him.

"Nonsense, we'll sort you out. Any friend of Harry is a friend of mine. Get your books out."

"I haven't actually got my book yet, nor has Ron." Potter advised.

"Get one from the cupboard. As I was saying, I prepared some concoctions this morning."

I continued to listen but I would get distracted so easily.
Just the thought of killing Dumbledore and getting caught is a real stress giver.
Draco and I have to do this right.

I accidentally brushed my hand on his after I scratched my cheek.
He looks at me with a small smile as I snapped him out of his thoughts.
He intertwines his hand with mine.
We look back at Slughorn.

"Sir, you haven't told us what's in that one." Katie Bell points out.

"Oh, yes. What you see before you ladies and gentlemen is a curious little potion known as Felix Felicis. But it is more commonly referred to as-"

"Liquid Luck." Granger interrupted.

Luck. That's all we need. Luck to fix this Vanishing Cabinet.

"One sip and you will find that all of your endeavors succeed. At least until the effects wear off. So this is what I offer each of you today. One tiny vial of liquid luck to the student who, in the hour that remains, manage so to brew an acceptable Draught of Living Death." Slughorn began.
I've heard of that potion before. Snape had told me how to specifically make one of those. I hope I can remember.

"The recipes can be found on page 10 in your books. I should point out, however, only once did a student manage to brew a potion of sufficient quality to claim this prize. Nevertheless, good luck to you all. Let the brewing commence." Slughorn explained.

Draco and I go to our station and start following directions on page 10, or some alternate instructions.

Remembering the instructions was a bit hard.
Dont cut, crunch with knife.
sprinkle, dont drop.
I don't think I ever focused and tried so hard in a class than I was doing right now.

Once I was done, I called Prof. Slughorn. At that same time however, Potter called Prof. Slughorn as well.

He came to mines first.
He dropped a leaf and it dissolved.
"It's perfect! Now let's see Potters." He says as he walked over to Potter.
I smile. I have a chance to get the Liquid Luck.

"Merlin's beard! It's perfect. So perfect I dare say one drop would kill us all." Slughorn exclaimed.

I sigh and slowly shake my head at the news.
I felt the chance slipping away.

"Potter gets the Liquid Luck!" Slughorn announces.

"What?! How does he get it if both of ours were perfect?!" I argued.

"Potters leaf completely dissolved and yours is somewhat dissolved." Slughorn explained.

I softly groaned and looked at my cauldron.
He was right. It somewhat dissolved.
Draco rubbed my back in comfort.

After class, Slughorn gives the Liquid luck to Potter.
I folded my arms and rolled my eyes to myself as the others clapped.

"That's so disappointing." I say to Draco as we walk out of the class.

"Yeah. How did you know how to do it so perfectly? Everyone else was struggling." Draco pointed out.

"I remember Snape doing this exact potion and he helped me learn it. It was awhile ago." I say as we enter our common room.

Draco nods and we head to our dormitories.
I change and meet Draco outside of the common room. We sneak our way to the room of requirement.
