.     Defense Against The Dark Arts     .

One of the Patil sisters made a flying bird out of paper. Seamus, who was in Gryffindor, hit the bird as it flew by him. One of the slytherin boys in front of us tried to hit it as well but failed. The bird flew up and around the chandelier, then floated down. "What are you staring at?" Draco asks as he was on the floor rummaging through his bag.

"One of the Patil sisters made a bird and it's flying around the class." I answered him. Before he got up, the bird was caught into flames and fell back down to its owner. "You missed it." I told him.

"Good morning, children." She greeted. Draco quickly got into his seat. We all turned around and she was there with her wand. "Ordinary Wizarding Level Examinations." She waved her wand as the board wrote down the words.
She walked to the front of the class.
"O.W.L's. More commonly known as OWLs." She turned to the front of the class. "I forgot we have exams this year." I told Draco. "We'll be fine. It's just some stupid exam anyway." Draco said. Umbridge flicked her wand at the books and they started to hand themselves out.

I looked at mine and it said, "Defense Against The Dark Arts, Basics for Beginners."

"Beginners?" I questioned to Draco. "What?" He was also confused. "A ministry-approved course of defensive magic." She explained.

Granger raised her hand.
"Yes?" Umbridge answered. "There's nothing in here about using defensive spells." Granger said.
I scanned the boom and she was right.
"Well, I can't imagine why you would need to use spells in my classroom."
"We're not gonna use magic?" Weasley asked.
"You will be learning about defensive spells in a secure, risk-free way." Umbridge informs.
"Less work." Draco says. "More essays." I sighed.

"Well, what use is that? If we're going to be attacked it won't be risk-free." Potter stated.

"Students will raise their hands when they speak in my class." Umbridge called out.

"It is the view of the Ministry that theoretical knowledge will be sufficient to get you through your examinations, which, after all, is what school is all about." Umbridge says.
I scoff in disagreement.

"How's theory supposed to prepare us for what's out there?" Potter spoke up. "There is nothing out there, dear. Who do you imagine would want to attack children, like yourself?" Umbridge asked.
"Oh, I don't know, maybe Lord Voldemort." Potter said.

I raise my head up from my desk.
This should be interesting.
The room went silent.

"Now let me make this...quite plain. You have been told that a certain dark wizard is at large once again." She referred to the dark lord.

"This.
Is.
A.
Lie." She slowly said.

"It's not a lie! I saw him! I fought him!" Potter loudly said. "Detention Mr. Potter!"
"So according to you, Cedric Diggory dropped dead of his own accord?"
"Cedric Diggory's death was a tragic accident."
"It was murder! Voldemort killed him! You must know that!" Potter shouted.
"Enough!" Umbridge yelled.
"See me later, Mr. Potter, my office." She finishes.
She dismissed awhile later.

.    After Classes   .

We were in the corridors just hanging out.

"You know, I never mastered the charm 'Aqua Eructo'."
I told the guys.
I get up and take out my wand.

"You're gonna shoot out water, you know that right?" Draco asked as if I was dumb.

"I know." I say confidently.
"Aqua Eructo." I casted.

My wand shoots out a small fountain of water.
"See, it's something small." I scoff as I try to turn it off.

"Now turn it off." Draco laughed.

"I'm trying."
I flick my wand as I try to stop it.
The boys got up behind me as the water began to get out if control.
It shot out a powerful stream before it finally stopped.

Once I put down my wand, my eyes widen.
Prof. Umbridge was there, soaking wet.

"Ms. L/N. In my office. Now!" She demanded.
Once she turned around, I rolled my eyes as I went to grab my bag.

"I'll see you guys, later." I sighed before I followed her up to her office.

It was all pink and the walls were decorated with plates of cats.

She sits down at her desk.
"Ms. L/N. Would you like to tell me what you were planning on doing with that charm you casted?" She asked.
"I was curious and I wanted to try and master the charm." I responded.
She gives that smile she always has.
Somehow she was completely dry already.

"You're a prefect." She observes as she gestures to my robe. I look down and see my prefect badge on.
I nodded.
"Such reckless behavior for a prefect, don't you think?" She asks as she puts her teacup down.
"Now, you must face the consequences. Sit."
I sat down at a desk where a paper was placed.

"I want you to write down some words for me." She gets up and hands me a quil. Easy, I've done this loads of times in detention with other Professors.

"Write 'I will use charms wisely'." I've seen this type of quil, it's like a pen the muggles use. It doesn't need ink.

I wrote down the words as fast as I could. I wanted to leave and get this over with.
I stop since I wrote it down. "Continue." She urges.
So I kept writing.
Then, I felt a sharp pain on my left hand.
I grunted in pain. I looked at it and some letters were appearing.
I
W

Those were the exact words I wrote down. I stop. Maybe she gave me this quil by accident.

"Something wrong?" She asks as she lifts her head up from her desk.
I shake my head and say no.

Did she really expect me to keep going? I continued and nothing else happened.
Once I wrote down enough to please her, she was able let me go.

I headed to the common room. Draco and the rest were there. I didn't want to show my hand because I knew Draco would worry, so I hid it. "Hey, what'd she made you do?" Draco asked. "Write lines like any other Professor. " I lied.
"What were you guys doing?" I asked. "We were thinking of heading to Hogsmeade, want to come with us?" Draco asked.

I don't want to risk showing him the burn. Especially after I lied to him.

"Not today, I have to do something." I lie as I turn around to go to my dormitory.

Ughh, I couldn't come up with a good excuse.
He'll know that there's something I'm not telling him.

I was right, because I heard soft knocking at the door.
I slowly opened it and it was Draco.

"Is everything alright?" He asks with furrowed brows. "Yeah, everything's fine." I say with a soft smile.
"What's wrong with you're hand?" He asks.
"Nothing." I say as I show him my right hand.
He grabs the other one and touches it gently.
"Who did this to you?" He asked concerned.
I look at him and frown.
The words were still fresh so he was able to read them. "Professor Umbridge, did this?" He asked.
I nod.

"She made me write that down on paper with this bewitched quil." I explained.
"Are you ok?" He asks.
"I'm fine, but it bloody hurt when it was happening." I answered.
"Malfoy! Come on!" They called from downstairs.
He sighs and asks, "Do you need me to stay?"
"No, it's alright, i'm gonna go to sleep and pretend none of this happened." I say with a smile.
"Okay, I love you." He chuckles as he leans in for a kiss. I accept it and say, "I love you, have fun."
He walked away and I closed the door.

I take off my uniform and put on my pj's. I hated looking at my left hand. It was badly burnt. I went under the covers and fell asleep.
