Year 6: This is Our Moment

Y/N POV
Draco and I had made plans to go and continue fixing the vanishing cabinet.

My boots made low and heavy sounds as I walked to go meet Draco.
As I head there, I see Loony Lovegood, with a hideous dress, patiently waiting.

I happened to catch her eye, but I didn't say anything. I just looked at her.

Who cares about her anyway? She doesn't deserve my time.
As I continued heading to the moonlight that shined through the window, I found Draco. He was sitting forward and his hands were in his lap.
I sat down next to him and laid my head on the wall.
It seemed like he was in his thoughts.

I observed him. He was sorta fidgeting with his hands.

He's nervous. He's anxious.

That thought made me frown and I put a hand on his back.

I heard footsteps coming towards us.
I took my hand away and pretended to look out the window.
As the pair passed us, I take a quick glance and realize it was Loony and Potter.

Prof. Slughorn was having a Christmas Party. It's probably where they were headed to.
We weren't invited because we weren't in their little group or club.

Once the footsteps grew quieter, Draco stood up and took my hand.

It was so sudden, he basically pulled me up from where I was sitting.
Still, he didn't say a word.

It was silent the whole way to the Room Of Requirement, except for our footsteps.

Once we entered, he let go of me and headed straight to the Vanishing Cabinet.

Draco took the fabric off and opened the creaking cabinet door.

"We need to get this fixed now, before we go back and face our parents." He began not even passing a glance to me.
"Or worse. The Dark Lord."

He takes out a green apple and places it inside of the cabinet.

He closes the door and takes out his wand.
He was quiet.

"Are you gonna join me or are you just gonna stand there?" He asked in a hard tone.

I was shocked as he never talked to me this way.
I walked over to Draco and took out my wand.
I pointed it to the cabinet.

"Harmonia Nectere Passus." Draco whispered with his eyes closed.
I repeated the spell.

then we repeated the spell together.

We heard a sudden click.
We open the cabinet to see that the apple was gone.
I turn to look over at Draco but he closes the door and gets back into his position.

I followed him, hesitantly.
We repeat "Harmonia Nectere Passus" twice.

We hear another click. Draco opens the cabinet to find the same green apple but it was bitten.

Bellatrix had probably bit it to signal us that it was working.
Or.
It didn't bring the whole apple through the switch.

Draco closes the door as he inspects the apple.

I use a spell to put the fabric back on the vanishing cabinet.

"At least it's fixable. It's beginning to work. Everything is falling into place." I tell Draco as we leave the Room Of Requirement.

For the first time since I've seen him tonight he actually kind of smiled.

As we turn a corridor, we saw Mr. Filch turn the corridor as well.

We tried to hide but Mr. Filch was quick to react.

"You two! What are you doing out of bed?" He asked in his rough tone as he walked closer to us.

"Err-" We both started to say.

I looked up and I saw the decorations hanging from the ceiling. Then it clicked.

"We were invited to Slughorn's Christmas party." I say.
"Yeah, we were heading there right now." Draco says going on with my lie.
"You expect me to believe that rubbish. Come on. Let's go." He grabs us both and starts pushing up towards the party.

I was trying to get him to unhand us but it was no use.

"Hey!" I half yell as we were entering the party.
"Take your hands off us, you filthy squib!" Draco insults.
"Professor Slughorn, sir. I just discovered this couple lurking in an upstairs corridor." Mr. Filch informs Slughorn.

All eyes were on us. I felt my face start to burn of embarrassment.
"They claim to have been invited to your party." Mr. Filch says.
"Okay, okay, we were gatecrashing." Draco says not wanting Mr. Filch to continue.
"Is that what you wanted to hear?" I say with heavy breaths.
"I'll escort them out." Snape said as he stepped out from the crowd.
I didn't even realize he was there.
"Certainly. Professor." Draco agreed as Mr. Filch finally let us go.
We walked out with Snape following close behind.

Once we were away from the party, Draco started running his mouth.

"Maybe we did hex that Bell girl. Maybe we didn't. What's it to you?" Draco teased.
Snape pushed us towards the wall with frustration.

"I swore to protect you both. I made the Unbreakable Vow." Snape confessed.

"We don't need your protection." I spat as Snape unhanded us.

"We were chosen for this. Out of all others, us." Draco said as he got in the face of Snape.
"We don't want to fail him." I advise.

"You're afraid. You're both afraid. You attempt to conceal it, but it's obvious. Let me assist you." Snape begged.
"No." Draco and I loudly cried in sync.
"We were chosen.

This is our moment."
