"Mooooooommmmy!" Jack whined as Autumn tried to comb his unruly hair into something nice looking. But when Amy just took the comb away from her wife's hands, she knew better than to try.
"Fine fine, mommy won't comb that monster. Are you ready for your first day of kindergarten?" He nods enthusiastically, bouncing up and down on his feet as he looks at his mommy with wide happy eyes.
"I'm gonna be the bestest student ever!" Autumn chuckles as Amy grabs her sons Ninja Turtle backpack and helps him put it on.
"Oh really? The bestest student ever?"
"Uh huh! I'm gonna help my teacher, Mrs. Jaguar and-"
"Baby, it's not Jaguar, it's Jauregui. But I'm pretty sure if you can't say her last name, she'll let you call her Mrs. J, but ask her before you call her that, okay?"
"Yes mommy." He nods and holds his foot out as his momma ties his shoe. It's quiet for a bit, and Autumn busied herself with making Jack's snack.
"Mommy?"
"What baby?"
"What if they don't like me?" Both Autumn and Amy look at each other before Autumn walks over to Jack and kneels in front of him.
"I don't think that'll happen baby, but, if it does, or if someone's being mean, you ignore them. Don't give them the satisfaction of seeing you upset because they'll keep saying things over and over just to get you even more mad. And if people don't like you, it's not your fault baby boy. It might take you a few days to warm up to someone. Like how it took Hannah a while before she would talk to you. It just depends baby, but just be your charming sweet self I know you are, and I'm sure you'll have friends in no time love. And remember, if you hear big words that other kids say that you never heard of, you don't repeat them okay, you tell your teacher that the person said a bad word, okay?" Jack nods and kisses his mommy's cheek before hugging her tightly.
After getting everything together and making sure Jack had everything he needed in his cool backpack, the two women head off towards the school.
Both Autumn and Amy take Jack's hands, and walk him towards the gate, where Mrs. Jauregui is waiting for them. "Autumn, Amy great to see you two again. And Jack! I'm happy that you'll be in my class!" Jack beams up at his teacher, before he suddenly becomes shy.
"Miss Teacher. Mommy said I hafta ask before I call you it, but I don't know how to say your last name, and mommy said it wasn't Jaguar, so may I please call you Mrs. J?" The teacher giggles and nods, telling Jack of course he could.
"Okay Jack, class is about to start soon, so why don't you go check out where you sit, and put your backpack on the hooks. Okay?" He nods, before looking up at his moms.
"I love you momma." He hugs Amy first, before hugging his mommy next. "I love you mommy. Take good care of momma please." Autumn chuckles and promises with a smile. Their son turns and takes a deep breath, puffing out his chest, acting brave as he walks into the class room.
"He's adorable. He'll be fine." The teacher smiles before moving onto other parents, letting Autumn and Amy walk back to the car.
It wasn't until they were home alone when Autumn breaks down crying. "Why can't he be our baby boy forever?" She sobs out, Amy can't help but laugh as she hold her wife close.
"I don't know, but it's okay baby. You'll see him soon." Kindergarten blues sucks.
