Chapter Twelve: Past II

Third Person's Pov

Jennie was ready to leave their campus when her friend Nayeon stopped her in front of the gate.

"Nayeon.." she frowned when she saw a baby in her friend's arms "Who's baby is that? You look off."

"Jennie, I'm in big trouble. I have a huge debt to my friend but I don't have the money to pay him.." Nayeon cried "This is the reason why I was absent for weeks now."

"I... I can't understand. Okay, you have a debt and what is the connection of that to the baby you're holding?"

"He asked me to take care of his daughter for good to pay my debt to him. Jen... I need your help. My parents will kill me if they found out about this, I'm staying at Sana's place for weeks now and my parents are starting to get worried. I need your help, Jen. Take the baby, please? I'm not ready for the big responsibilities." Nayeon begged, "Please, Jennie."

"Nayeon... I don't know. I know I told you that I want to have a baby but not now, at least not yet."

Nayeon kneeled "Please, Jen?" Tears continued to fall "I'm begging you. I know that you'll take care of this child. Please."

Nervously, Jennie stepped inside their house.

"Jennie." Mrs. Kim was about to hug her daughter "Who's baby is that?"

"Let me explain, mom."

"Explain what, Ruby Jane? Where did you get that baby?" Mrs. Kim started to panic

The rest of the Kim family went to the living room where they are talking.

"What is happening, mom?"

"Your sister! Look! She brought home a baby!"

Jisoo guided her mother to sit on the couch.

"Noona, where did you get that cute baby?" V stood next to Jennie "Aww. She's so cute. How old is she?"

"I think she's ten months old." Jennie guessed

"Taehyung." Mrs. Kim called V

"What? The baby is so adorable. What is the problem?"

"Go your room, V." Jisoo said to their youngest

V sighed and obliged.

"Jennie, sit and explain everything." Jisoo said

Jennie sat on the sofa across them.

'Should I tell them? They will be mad at me more if I'll say the truth. What should I tell them?'

"Explain, Ruby Jane." Mrs. Kim sternly said

"I... I was walking back home when I heard a baby crying, then... I saw this baby girl in a trash can." Jennie lied "I cannot just leave this angel, mom. She needs me."

"Do you know what the responsibilities you have to take because of that baby? My god, Jennie!" Mrs. Kim massaged her temples "We barely survive every day, we're short of money. I don't know where to get extra money for your tuition fee then you'll do this? And for Pete's sake, Ruby Jane! You're just third-year college, how can we provide the needs of that baby?"

Jennie was desperate and determined to take the baby as her own. She'll do everything for the baby.

"I will work." She said will full of determination in her voice "I'll find a part-time job, I'll work after school, you don't have to worry about her needs, I'll be the one to provide them. Just please, let me adopt her."
