The cold mountain air of Skyrim smelled of burning flesh and drying blood as two figures walked towards the remains of a village.
"IT'S TOO FUCKING COLD!" said one figure to the other in a young female voice.
"What did you expect when Victoria wrote us saying Aela had a contract in the mountains Mhara?" Said the other in a male voice.
"Forgive me, Rayan." Mhara said in a sarcastic tone.
Mhara was a young female nord around 17 of age with the attire of a thief (and the skills of a master according to Victoria) with ashen grey shoulder length hair, using a short sword.
"While she is a skilled thief, she sure is shit in a fight." Thought Rayan, who was around 23, a skinny but well built male nord with light brown hair just pass his neck and blue eyes. He favored a one handed steel sword across his back and light armor of the Dawnguard Hunters as was always recognized by the emblem of a sun on his medallion he wore.
"I don't know why?" Pipped Mhara. "But I'm still curious on how you and Victoria met?"
"I'll give you my side of it when we get back to the inn." replied Rayan.
As the two approached a house outside the village Rayan beckoned Mhara to stay back a bit as he peered around the corner to see in the middle of the village. He noticed three feral vampires hunched over and feeding on something large off the ground. He urged Mhara forward to show her the monsters. A look of shock and fear radiated in her eyes as she'd only ever been on bandit contracts with Rayan but never a monster contract.
"Remember" he said in a low hushed tone. "Keep your guard up and let me deal with most of them."
"There are most likely more around here so be wary of your surroundings." He continued. "And if any charge you, you dodge it immediately. Don't be sloppy when attacking and don't draw out the fight."
"Ok." She said with a shaky breath as if trying not to cry.
Rayan quietly drew his sword while Mhara slowly drew hers as to not alert the vampires that they were there. He looked behind him at Mhara to see if she was ready. She took a deep breath and game him a slight nod. Rayan pulled a small orb from one of the pouches with his left hand and threw it at the vampires.
A small white explosion appeared with sliver shards that glistened in the sunlight stunning the vampires as he charged forward and Mhara ran off to the left. Two vampires took notice of Rayan and charged him as he noticed the third went after Mhara. Rayan had to force himself to trust her that she could handle it. In a quick chain of motion the first vampire swiped, prompting him to duck right under the claws as he slashed his sword right through the side of the vampires stomach. The second lunged at Rayan and pinned him to the ground for a brief second before Rayan hit the vampire in the jaw with the hilt of his sword. he got up quickly just as the first vampire swiped again. He dodged in the opposite direction and leaped into the air with a quick spin swinging his sword and slicing the vampire in the back of its shoulder clear down to its hip. the vampire fell apart in two pieces.
Before Rayan could focus his attention on the second, a sharp scream filled the air from the other side of the village. In the brief second he lost his focus the second vampire lunged again and slashed him in his left thigh leaving two deep cuts and one light cut bringing Rayan down to one knee giving the vampire an opportunity to lunge again and pin him on his stomach. the vampire tried to take a bite out of Rayans neck but its teeth barley could get past his leather collar. Given the brief moment Rayan elbowed the vampire right in the ribs, flinging the monster on its back he pulled out his silver dagger and stabbed the vampire in its throat slicing down all the way to its groin. Rayan laid on his back and took a quick breath of relief before reaching into his pouch and taking out a small bottle filled with a blue liquid and drank it quickly. He immediately felt relief as the pain and bleeding from his leg had stopped before he got up and sprinted towards what he hoped but knew it was Mharas scream.
