James Pov
After Jeff leaves I go to the bedroom and I find Eva sleeping - but she's not asleep yet- I change into my pajamas and get to bed.
"Honey, am so.." she lifts her hand to shush me.
"Not now please" she moves further from me and I can tell that she is really angry at me
I don't even know what came over me when I asked Eva to invite Jeff for dinner. Who in their own right mind does that.
I just thought that my plan was going to work but when I saw how Eva looked at Jeff, I felt so heartbroken and I just wished that she could look at me like that even for a moment. I let my feelings get the best of me and I didn't do what I had planned.
"Please baby, let's talk about it" I move closer to her and kiss her shoulder. I really want her so much but I just can't have her.
" There's nothing to talk about James. You did what you did and we can't change that. It's no use talking about what is done" I really hate seeing her angry or sad. It breaks my heart to see her like that but what makes it worse is the fact that I am the one who is causing it.
"I really didn't mean to do that. I just... I don't know how to make you understand this. It's kinda.. it's complicated" I say this closing my eyes as I feel a pool of emotions crowd my heart.
"What is complicated?" I open my eyes to see her staring at me. Those beautiful eyes that shine even in the dark.
" You don't understand... I'm.. I just. Can you please forgive me" I feel defeated at this point and I just hope she forgives me.
"Let's just sleep" she places her head on the pillow facing the other side.
"Can I please hold you in my arms" I don't even know why I asked that. She's angry and she won't let me but this is the only thing I feel like doing , " Please my darling" she turns to face me and I pull her in my arms. Her head rests on my chest while her hands go around my waist.
After some few minutes she starts snoring and I smile as I realise she already fell asleep.
Jeff Pov
I get up to leave but James stops me
"We need to talk. Man to man"
He says sternly and I get back to my seat.
"How about we do it some other time when she's not around" I suggest and James nodes
"Good. I'll let you know when" I say looking at my phone to see it's already 11. Shit! I should be leaving now
"And I'll let you know the place" I nod and leave immediately.
I had a date with my ex wife, Sally.Yeah, I married her two years ago when I moved to Bartio but we divorced after 6 months. Yes, I married her for business and after my company got the contract we divorced.
Flashback
"You both have great projects but only one of you will get the contract. We have to use a criteria to disqualify one of you. The projects are about children and family life and we all know how you are in that aspect" Charles says a smile starting to play on his lips.
"Actually Sir, I am in a serious relationship right now and in few months we'll be getting." I suprise myself as I say this since I didn't have any plans on getting married anytime soon. Is Eva even ready to get married now. We love each other but asking her to get married right now for business purposes is so unfair and selfish.
"Oh! Who's the lucky Queen that captured your heart boy? She must be special if you really want to marry her" he chuckles and looks at me waiting for an answer.
"It's Sally. Your daughter" What? I can't believe myself. I think I am going crazy. I've never even been close to her. I only met her twice and we said simple hellos. I am in big trouble now.
"What do you mean? You and my daughter are in a relationship?" He becomes serious all over sudden. Shit, what did I just do
"I..uh..we"I don't even know what to say at that moment.
"He's only doing this to get the contract." Mark my rival states and I agree with him inwardly.
"When did you start dating her" Charles asks looking more furious.
"Well, about six months ago Sir. We just kept it a secret but we were going to make it public in a few weeks." Immediately I say that, the door opens and Sally with all her glory gets in
"Daddy can I please talk to you" she says ignoring our presence. Great, just great, now tell me how am going to explain all this.
"I am busy right now but maybe you would like to explain to me what Jeff is saying" he says shifting his gaze from his daughter to me
"What.." she starts to say but I cut her off.
"Sir, as I just said. We've been dating for six months but we kept it in secret because.."
"What? You and I are dating?" She shouts in an irritated voice
"Babe. Your dad already knows. I even told him we're getting married in a few months."
"Are you crazy" she gets angrier and I just hope she won't pounce on me.
"I am really sorry sweetheart. I know we were supposed to tell him together but it was urgent" I move to her and hold her shoulders but she pushes my hands away.
"Don't touch me" she yells and walks outside and I follow her.
"Excuse me gentlemen. I need to talk to her." I see Charles smile and it suprises me. I thought he was angry about me dating his daughter.
"Good luck" he shouts at me as I lock the door behind me and follow Sally to the elevator.
"Hey. Listen up please, I just need you to do me that one favor. Just pretend to be my fiancee for a while until I find a solution to this problem"
"Are you insane? You think I am going to lie to my own father just so that you can get a stupid contract? " She spits in disgust.
" I really need to get the contract Sally, please help me out."
"Why would I do that" she questions and I get a little hope that she'll help me."
"Let's go somewhere quiet and I'll explain everything please." I suggest and she nods her head okay
"Thank you" I say as the elevator stops ground floor and we make our way to where my car is parked.
I don't understand what kind of a game I am playing but I hope it's not so dangerous. I wonder if Eva will understand me even though what am doing is selfish.
