Eva's Pov
"Listen Jeff. All that happened is in the past and this right here is my present. I can't change a thing because I already have my family with me. Maybe it would be better if you just moved on with your life as I have" I tell him in a stern but calm voice.
"Eva, I have tried to fight for your in every way. I have tried to show you that I still love you but I know I can't leave to fight a lost battle."
"Jeff. Please, move on with your life" I plead with him and I feel tears fall from my eyes
"Tell me this last thing Eva and I promise I will never come back into your life again. Do you love me?"
" Jeff please stop. This is not helping. We have different lives now"
"Listen Eva. I'm not asking you to leave your family, I know how much those kids mean to you and I'm not that cruel. I just need you to tell me what you feel about me. I'm willing to be a father to them if that is what it will take for you to come back to my. Just say the words.."
"I don't love you anymore Jeff. It was all in the past, now I feel..eel..n- nothing" I say as more tears keep flowing
"Okay Eva. I will leave you alone. I'll be going away tonight. In case you change your mind, I will be leaving at 7 o'clock, after that, you'll never here from me again. I will leave you alone and maybe I could try to pick up myself and try to move on"
He hangs up and I sit there as tears flow more furiously. I take a bracelet from my pocket. The bracelet that he gave me three years ago. It was the only memory that I had for Jeff and my secret too.
"Mum. Are you alright? " I look up and see Alice's worried face in front of me
"Yes dear, I'm okay don't worry"
"If you were really okay mum, you wouldn't be crying. Mum, I know you are hurting but I want you to know that Sam and I are going to support you in whatever decision you make. We know what you feel about uncle Jeff and we're okay with the decision you'll make." She kneels down and hugs me so tightly and I feel so helpless.
The door opens and Sam comes in carrying a handbag with pizza inside. He puts it on the counter and walks to where Alice and I are and hugs me also
"Mum, you have sacrificed a lot for us and for that we are greatful. You've denied yourself a chance to be happy but this time mum, don't do the same mistake. You might never be able to correct it."
I can't believe that I'm hearing this from my own kids. They really have grown. Just the other day they were small kids and their mother used to have a hard time trying to stop them fighting over toys and all..time really passes so quickly.
I smile as I think about all these things. I don't know what I'd have done without them in my life. I had grown so used to them even though I'm not their biological mother. I love them as if they are my own children. In my eyes there is no difference between them and Keam.
We stay there for almost an hour talking about this and that until I remember there's somewhere I'm supposed to go.
I check the time on the clock and it's already 4 o'clock . I get up and head to the kitchen to prepare supper.
It takes me an hour and a half and after that I quickly head to the shower and in 30 minutes I'm already heading out of the house.
"Alice, Sam. I'm heading out, Please stay with Keam until I come. He's still asleep though."
I here them run down with smiles on their faces
"Mum, you look so beautiful in that dress. Are you going to where I'm thinking" Alice says with a huge smile plastered on her face, I nod yes and she hugs me "good luck mum" she kisses my chick and steps backwards.
"Mum, I wish you good luck. By the way, I'll also be going out because I have a date with Betty but Allly will stay with Keam" Sam says and hugs me.
"I'll be okay mum, Vee is coming tonight so I won't be alone" she says before I even talk
I check on my watch and it's already 5.45 p.m I kiss them goodbye and drive away to Jeff's.
The kids are right, I can't let make the same mistakes again.
The traffic is so heavy and I'm tempted to call him but I chose against it because I want to suprise him.
It's already 6.30 and the traffic is now opening in about twenty minutes, I'm pulling up in Jeff's apartment and wasting no time I'm standing on his door knocking while I fix my dress. I can't help but smile.
I knock again and the door is opened by a lady, she lifts her brows at me but I'm left dumbstruck.
"Hello, you must be Eva?"
I nod and meet her extended hand "well, I'm Sally, Jeff's ex or whatever you may call it. He's not here, he already left and I came here to pick up this documents that he forgot" she says with a sympathetic look but I don't believe her
"Move aside, I want to speak to Jeff. He is supposed to leave by 7 so please step aside" I push her and get in. I check all the rooms but he's nowhere to be found.
"I told you. You lost him and this time, you did it for good" she says as she walks out of the door and leaves.
I sit on the floor and stare at the ceiling but I see a blurry vision as tears fill my eyes.
How could I have been so stupid. Now he's gone for good and he'll never be back in my life again.
I stay there for almost an hour and then I decided to go back home and move on with my pathic life.
