"Hey Ally, I need to tell you something" I say as I enter her room and ensure that I lock the door
"What is it Sam?" She turns to face me
"Yesterday at the park. When I went to get the ice cream, I met uncle Jeff"
"What was he doing there?" She asks now paying attention to me
"I don't know but he wanted to come over to us but I stopped him" I say almost feeling guilty at what I did
"Why did you do that? Remember what daddy told us Sam. That wasn't right"
"I know but I just thought of us. What's going to happen if they get back together"
"Sam. You're the one who told me that mum will never leave us, right? Even if they get back together, mum will never leave us or make us feel unwanted"
"Yeah. So what should I do?"
"Nothing. Let things flow but if ever you find yourself in such a situation, don't stop them. We all know their history and also remember what daddy told us before he died. We should support her instead"
"Well, it's okay then. I just hope things will still be okay"
I hug Alice and then I leave to my room. After watching some movies on my laptop I go to the kitchen to have a snack.
The house phone rings and I receive it only to hear uncle Jeff on the other hand
"Hey Sam. How are you and others?"
"Uncle Jeff. We're all doing great"
"Okay. Can I please talk to your mom, I tried to reach her but her phone is off"
"Sure. I'll call her. By the way, I'd like to apologise about yesterday..."
"It's okay Sam. I understand why you did that"
"Okay then. Give me a minute please I'll call her for you"
I run to the garden where mum is watering the flowers.
" Hey mum, uncle Jeff is on the phone. He wants to talk to you"
She's hesistant at first and then she turns and walks into the house.
I follow her into the house and head to the kitchen to make some bacon.
As I'm heading out, I here mum arguing on the phone with uncle Jeff but I try to ignore whatever it is that she's saying although I can't help but hear some things.
I go to my room and pick my hood. I'm supposed to meet up with my friend Dylan at the park and later in the evening, I'll be going out with Betty, it's been so long since we went out.
I check on my watch and realize that I only have 10 minutes left to get to the park. I go to Alice's room and borrow her earphones and then I head out, without letting mum know where I'm off to since she's still on the phone.
I just can't help but wish things were different. She has sacrificed a lot for us to a point that she's forgotten that she also needs to be happy.
Since my real mother died, yes I had a mom but she succumbed to cancer three years ago. Before she died, she had brought Eva into our lives after she had found her almost committing suicide and she became a part of our family. When mum was almost dying, she told us that we were to respect and love Eva as I she was our own mother. It wasn't a hard thing to do since she was and still is so easy to love. After a little while she got married to dad and we were okay with it except Alice who felt like Eva was replacing mum in dad's life but later on she came to accept it and we moved on.
Mum Eva never left our side even once and although we miss our biological mum, she has always filled the emptiness in our hearts. She helped Alice who had the hardest time dealing with the death of our mum. She never talked to anyone and rarely ate for almost four months. Mum Eva used to take care of her and encourage her. She even bought her gifts and took her to places to have fun until one day, she was able to smile again. Mum Eva was like a pillar to her and she always ran into her arms whenever she felt like she needed a shoulder to cry on.
I see Dylan walking with a girl to the ice cream place right at the exit gate. I'm surprised to say the least since he isn't the type to hangout with girls.
I jog over to them and he's suprised to see me, I guess he'd forgotten we were supposed to meet up.
"Heey Dylan" I greet as we bro hug
"T'sup men" he replies and looks at the girl on his side then smiles "Cate meet Sam. Sam this is Cate my girlfriend"
I feel my lips open in suprise. Dylan? Girlfriend? Whoaa..wait.
"Heeey man" he snaps me out of my moment
"Oh yeah .um..hey Cate" I greet and she extends her hand and greets me
"Hey there Sam." I have to admit this girl is a real beauty queen. She has small eyes that fit perfectly in her round face. But Betty is way too beautiful.
"So.. I guess..uuhm, I'll see you later" Dylan winks and I get his point but before I leave an idea pops in my mind.
"Hey Cate. What do you say if we all go on a double date. I'm supposed to go out with Betty later in the evening so maybe you guys could join us"
"Oh you have a girlfriend?" She asks excitedly and I nod "that's awesome, we'll definitely do that, right babe" she turns to look at Dylan and he flows with the idea.
"Well then, I'll text you the details then. See you later guys" I bid them good bye and head right back home to get ready for later.
