Introduction
Some loves don’t fade—they echo.
Through years, through silence, through every heartbeat you try to ignore.
This is a story about that kind of love. The kind that waits quietly in the corners of your life, refusing to die even when it’s buried under pain, distance, and time.
I Came Back For You is a journey through memory, heartbreak, and healing. It’s about two souls torn apart by life, yet bound by something deeper—something that neither time nor hurt could erase.
It’s not about perfect timing. It’s about the courage to return… and the hope that someone is still waiting.

Mum
It was almost midnight, and my husband James still wasn't home. My eyes were growing heavy, but instead of giving in to sleep, I decided to keep myself busy as I waited for him.
I headed to Alice's room and started cleaning. She was away for a sleepover at Vee's-her best friend-so it was the perfect time to tidy up her space without interruptions.
About twenty minutes in, I heard baby Keam crying. I rushed to his room, only to find him already cradled in Sam's arms. Keam adored Sam. They shared a special bond-Sam always played with him and brought him little gifts. Alice, on the other hand, often got frustrated with the baby messing up her things. But deep down, I knew she cared for her little brother.
Sam gently rocked Keam back to sleep and laid him in his crib. Just as we were about to step out of the room, Keam whimpered again. I picked him up, but he reached out to Sam, arms wide.
"Come on, little man," Sam groaned, half-laughing. "I've got classes tomorrow. I can't stay up with you all night."
Still, he took him in his arms.
"Why don't you just sleep with him in your bed tonight?" I suggested. Sam nodded, and we all headed out of Keam's room together.
As I returned to Alice's room, a knock on the front door startled me. I hurried to open it.
There he was-James-sitting on the doorstep, head buried in his hands. He looked defeated.
I helped him up and wrapped his arm around my shoulder, guiding him inside. He leaned on me heavily, clearly intoxicated. I eased him onto the living room sofa and took off his shoes before heading to the kitchen to warm his dinner.
Five minutes later, I returned and placed the food on the table.
"Where's Alice?" he asked, his voice slurred.
"She's at Vee's for a sleepover," I replied softly.
"I'm glad she's not here... I don't know how to tell her that... she, uh... she won't have her 11th birthday party."
My heart sank. "But you promised her. You know she's going to be disappointed."
"I know," he said, his eyes glossy. "But... I lost my job today. The little money we have left will barely cover our bills until I find something else."
I sat beside him and placed a hand on his shoulder. "Is that why you came home so late and drunk?" I asked gently. "It's okay. I'll talk to her. I'm sure she'll understand. And don't worry-I won't ask how it happened tonight. Just eat, take a shower, and come to bed."
Leaving him to his meal, I walked to Sam's room to check on the boys.
They were both sound asleep. Keam had his tiny arms wrapped around his big brother's neck. The sight melted my heart. I smiled, quietly closed the door, and headed back to James.
Tough days were coming, but deep down, I believed we would be alright.
