It's almost 9 when I get home and I find everyone asleep, that's odd because we usually go to sleep around 11. Well, maybe they got bored or something.
I walk to the kitchen feeling exhausted and I make myself some coffee. I take some cookies and sit on the dining table and instead of eating I just stare at the food in front of me.
"Hey mum, how did it go?" I'm snapped out of my thoughts by Sam's voice who is standing at the kitchen door.
"Bad" I feel tears roll down my cheeks "he had already left and..oh, I just lost him" I can't believe I am crying in front of my own son
"Didn't you call him?" He asked curiously but I shake my head. Wait.. I should have called him, how did I not think of that sooner.
"Call him now. It's not too late mom" Sam gave me a sympathetic look
"I can't son, there is no need for that, he's already gone... Forever' I said the last word in whisper.
"Mom, there is no harm in trying" Sam says as he walks to where my phone is and before I know it, he has already called him and he gives me the phone and walks away.
My heart beats so first as I listen to the phone. I'm scared that he'll receive the call but I'm also afraid that he might not receive it
I'm giving up since he's not going pick up my calls and as I take my phone from my ear to end the call, I here his voice from the other end.
"Hey" it's all he says and more tears flow from my eyes
"J..J.J..Jeff.. I..uh.. I called you because.. you know.. but sorry, I know you're not..."
"Eva, why did you call me?" His voice is so calm and I can't help but love how it comes out
"I'm sorry, I came to see you but you were not there so I stayed for almost an hour..and by the way, Sally was there too and she had some documents but she left, she told me you were not there but I told her to move aside so that I can..."
"You're rambling you know?" I can't believe I'm doing this right now, why is my brain failing me so terribly
"What, sorry.." I continue but he interrupts me again
"Why did you go to my place?" Really now..
"I came to see you Jeff, I came to stop you from leaving but I was late.. I was hoping to find you there but I got up in the traffic and when I got there, you had already gone. I'm so sorry Jeff, I guess it doesn't matter how much we love each other, it's just not meant to be." I stop talking and I wait for him to talk but he doesn't. A minute or two pass but he is still quite. Did I say something wrong?
"Jeff"
"Do you still love me Eva?" He asks and my heart almost skips a bit. I didn't see this coming.
"Does it really matter? I love you bu.."
"No buts, I just wanted to know if you did and you confirmed it" he says in a chuckle and I imagine how beautiful his face looks right now
"But Jeff... that doesn't change a thing. You already left and that means we're over" I say finally giving up
"That makes a whole lot of difference love. As long as you love me.." he's words are interrupted by a doorbell ring
"Hold on a little, there's some one on the door. Lemme get it first" I walk to the door with my phone still on my ear.
I open the door but there's no one there. That's strange, I thought I heard the doorbell ring. I walk out and go down the stairs but I see no one.
"Eva darling are you still there?" Jeff asks and I nod but I remember he can not see me and I answer "I'm still here love. I heard a knock on the door but I didn't find anyone"
"That's strange. Maybe you're not safe, ran back to the house" I quickly run to the house and close the door but the lights are off. My heart starts beating rapidly and I move to a corner hoping whoever that person is will not be able to see me
I close my eyes and hid my head between my knees. I stay like this for a while still scared to death and I couldn't scream. An idea pops into my mind and I decided to call the police. When I lift up my head, I'm met by a beautiful sight of candles around the living room. Wait.. what is this. I walk to where Jeff is and hug him so tightly. I had forgotten how warm it felt to be in his arms.
He pushes me away gently and goes on his one knee
"Will you be my wife Eva?"I honestly didn't expect this today but I did a mistake of letting you go and this time, I'm not repeating the same mistake.
"Yes I will be your wife Jeff" I say as I give him my hand and let him slip the ring on my finger.
I here claps and I turn around only to see my kids watching us in awe and clapping.
They come to us and hug us and Jeff takes Keam in his arms.
"Jeff.. I-l... I" I start to say but he shakes his head
"I know about it darling. He looks so much like me and I would be a fool not to notice the resemblance" he says as he places a kiss on his sons head. He hands him to me and pulls Ally and Sam to him and hugs them.
"You're all my children and I never want you to feel left out at any time. You don't have to call me dad but just know that I love you so much and I will always be here for you anytime" he kisses Ally's forehead and pulls them back in a hug. I find it so cute and I can't help but join in. This is the most beautiful thing and even though it was never in our imagination, it's the perfect family and I wouldn't ask for any other.
"And how comes you didn't leave Jeff" I asked as we were still in the hug
"Moooommm. Why did you have to spoil the moment?" Ally pouts as everyone pulls away and I roll my eyes and everyone laughs
"I just wanted to know" Jeff pecks me on the lips and pulls me to the couch to sit beside him.
"That my darling, is a story for another day" he exchanges looks with Sam then continues "what is important is that I am here with you and my family" he kisses my cheek as he embraces me and I melt into the warmth of his hold.
