"Oh there comes our favorite couple", Bryce grinned when we met each other at his party, "Did you wrap his mom around your finger?" Yes, another party, who would have guessed that? "She knew my dad from school so I have no idea what she really thinks." "There's no need to worry about that, babe. She loved you", Scott reassured me lovely.
"You can't deny that she was skeptic when she saw my car. She probably thinks I'm spoilt." "Well if we're honest.. aren't you spoiled?", the boys grinned, "Just joking, you know that." "Let's just go out to the pool house."
"Hey, babe, you're not mad, are you?", Scott looked at me worried. "No, it's fine, Scotty. I just heard that Jeff would be here today and if it wasn't for Chloe I wouldn't be here. I'm just not in the mood for another party", I muttered embracing his body with my arms.
"We can go if you'd rather be at home", he mumbled against my head, "I don't need to be here." "No, I don't really want to see my dad. I just want to stay around you, the boys or girls tonight. But I swear if Luke or anyone says something about that damn video-" "They won't, babe. Or else I'm going to make them stop."
"Well, someone needs to speak the truth, huh?", Leah walked by with a friend laughing. "Is there something you want to say to my face, Williams?", my voice got louder, she could make me so angry. "Actually, there are a lot of things-" "Hey, can't you two just stop fighting? Just leave her alone, Leah. You don't know what she's been through", the one and only Jeff Atkins appeared next to us.
He already walked to some of the boys from the baseball team leaving the four of us standing here confused. "Let's just say we're even, alright?", I suggested because I was so done with all of the negativity around me. "Jeff left me for you. Do you think I'll ever forget that?"
"Honestly, I'm sorry for that. And I don't expect you to forget it or to forgive me. Just do it for yourself to not be in a bad mood whenever we see each other. Fighting over a boy? I don't know about you but I think I'm grown enough to not care about it anymore", I gave her my hand. "Alright."
"Can we talk, Ellie?", Jeff followed me when I went over to the bar to take my third glass of whiskey. "You're ready to talk to me?", I wondered surprised, "Why would you even defend me in front of Leah? Aren't you back together?"
"We're not a couple. We just started talking again. And believe it or not but you mean a lot to me, I can't just ignore you forever." "You sound rueful as if you had sent the video of Scott and I to everyone", I chuckled lightly, "It's good that I know you well enough to say you would never be able to do that."
Jeff looked at me for a moment, "Yes, no, I'd never do that to my best friends. I just realized that I've been too hard to all of you. We should talk." "What do you want to say about it? You know that we're sorry. I hate myself for lying to you for so long. It's been either Sheri or you." "And you chose her."
"I didn't. I really wanted to tell you when we hooked up before the party at which Scott and I became a couple. But you kissed me and I couldn't stop me from doing the same. That's not an excuse, I know." "Els, let's not talk about it anymore. We're friends and we stay friends." "Jeff!"
"The boys can't be without you for a minute, huh?", I smiled watching them playing around in the pool. "I'm just going to talk to Luke for a second. Can you hold my phone for a minute in case I'm going to get wet?" "Sure", I took it, sat at the bar while he went to the boys.
"That seemed to be a long conversation between you two", Scott laid his arm around me, filled my glass again. "He said he's over it. We're friends." "He said that?", Scott arched his eyebrows, "He still looks at me as if I stood between you two." "Looks like he's slowly starting to calm down. Why are you so skeptic? It's Jeff, he wouldn't hurt a bee."
"Babe, don't be so naive. Jeff's not an angel, he can also be an idiot. You should know that", Scott sounded annoyed. "I'm not being naive, Scott. You could just be happy for me that we're talking again. Just because he's not talking to you, he can talk to me. It's not my fault I was his first love and therefore mean a lot more to him", I hissed.
Why would Scott be so aggressive now? "Then do whatever you like but don't come crying to me when he's the reason why you're sad." "Wow", I sighed, "Here, take his phone. I would give it to him but I think it's best when I head home." "Fine." "Fine."
When I entered the house again to get to the cars and call a taxi, I noticed that I forgot my own phone. Pretty smart. So I head back to the last place that I've been to, the pool house. I thought it would be empty by now but Scott was still in there searching Jeff's phone.
"You're back?" "Just forgot my phone. If you already checked on that as well, you can tell me if I've got new messaged", I added with a hint of incomprehension in my voice. "Well, I'm sure you'd like to see that", Scott smiled as if he had just won a price.
He held Jeff's phone in front of my eyes so I could see his messages. He had sent every jock and every cheerleader and everyone else he knows from school a video, the video of Scott and I. My jaw dropped. "You don't think he-" "I know it. I knew that's why he talks to you again but I had no evidence. And now you see it yourself."
"Scott, it's Jeff we're talking about", I sighed slowly realizing that he was right, "This looks so real." "It is real." "It's been him. He promised me that it was not him who sent that damn video. How could he lie to me?" "I don't understand why he would do this. He's not like that", I repeated myself.
"Hey, Els, thanks for waiting. Luke was just-", Jeff came back but noticed Scott having his phone in his and with the video on, "Scott bro, what are you doing?" "What I'm doing? What are you doing, bro?", Scott stressed holding the phone in front of Jeff's eyes, "Are you fucking kidding me?"
"Man, I didn't film you guys", Jeff laughed sounding as if he had heard a joke. I knew him well enough to know he was lying now. He became more nervous each second. "You promised me that just a few minutes ago", I whispered disappointed looking up, "Why would you do that to us, your friends?"
