childish fights

"Childish fights are the worst."

"He'll calm down, Ellie. He didn't mean all of those things." "He did, we all know it! Did you ever see him this angry? He meant every word he said." "But it's not your fault, not Sheri's. No one can change what happened." "I could have told him sooner. I promised all of you that I would and see what happened." "He was shocked, guys", Chloe tried it, "Jeff needs time to process what he just found out. But he will not be angry forever."

"Yes, he will", Scott shook his head, "He's never been like that. He told us everything he had on his mind so he's done with us." "We shouldn't have told him." "No, I should have done it before." "Guys, stop blaming yourself", Bryce stood up from the couch, "Let's clean this mess up and calm down for a moment. Blaming yourself won't help anyone. He would have found out anyway."

He was right, throwing things to the ground won't change the situation. So I picked up the small piece of glass, the others helping me. "Hey, be careful. Don't cut yourself with the glass." "I'm sorry, Scotty. You didn't have anything to do with it." "Baby, stop blaming yourself. Bryce's right. It won't help us. It's my fault, too."

I guess no one really knew how to handle this situation. Jeff was such an important friend to all of us and we lied to him for weeks. It's only fair that we'd get what we deserve. "I'll be doing the rest of it, don't worry about it", I told them half an hour later when we calmed down at least a bit, "You can go home if you want."

"What about you?" "I stay here with her", Scott laid his arm around me. "We stay, too. We told him together and we'll go through it together", Chloe smiled at us lightly, "Let's say it's a sleepover. Do you have ice cream?" "Yeah, of course. Chocolate? Salted caramel?" "Whipped cream?" "Gummy bears?" "Who wants gummy bears to ice cream, Montgomery?" "Me!"

I placed a big bowl in the middle of the sideboard so everyone could fill it with what they wanted and gave everyone a teaspoon. In the end, we sat in the living room watching movies all together, eating our ice cream and even laughed sometimes until we fell asleep on each other. After all, we were just teenagers.

"So you two found Justin?", I met Tony at his Mustang, Clay was next to him of course. "You knew that he'd be there, right?" "He didn't want to stay with me so I brought him water and food each day. And today he wasn't there anymore. I knew sooner or later you would talk to him." "He's at my house, you can visit him", Clay offered me as if nothing has ever happened.

"I'm not talking to you", I rolled my eyes, turned back to Tony, "Is he okay?" "Besides his drug addiction he doesn't look worse than usual. I thought you two were friends now?" "We were until Clay forced me to tell Jeff what happened and now I lost Jeff so I don't need friends who give me an ultimatum."

"It's not my fault!" "It's not but you could have given me enough time to chose the right moment. I would have never thought that Jeff would react like that." "Didn't you have weeks for that after he woke up?"

"Ugh, I'm not talking to you as I said. Sheri knows how to help Justin. She will help you guys." "Why would you help us?" "I'm not helping you, we're helping Justin."

"Don't you want to start leaving me alone?", Jeff stood next to me at the lockers. "Coincidentally you had asked me to take the locker next to yours so I'm sorry but I can't just get another locker over night." "Have you asked for another one?"

"Excuse me?", I looked at him surprised, "Do you think it's the thirst thing I think about when I come here? To ask for another locker? Jeff, I understand that you're angry but you're overreacting. We don't have to change our lockers because of a fight."

"This is not a fight. I told you I was done with you. So the faster you get another locker, the better it will be." "You know what?", I almost shouted at him becoming furious about his behavior, "If you want another locker then do it yourself. I'm not someone you can force to do something. I still want this friendship and I'm not going to be the one letting go of it."

"Whatever your toyboy stands there." "Scott's my boyfriend not a toy. But thanks for the friendly conversation."

"You seem disgustingly happy", I joked arching my eyebrow when Chloe hopped out of Bryce's car. "He just asked me to come over tonight so I can get to know his parents", she grinned being on cloud nine. "That's great, Chloe. I'm so happy for you", I hugged her. "Since when do we have a reason to be happy? Aren't we team fucked up?", Sheri walked over with Monty.

"You know what? Chloe is happy and I am, too, today. For her and for us. Nothing will ruin my good vibes today." "Are you pregnant, Chlo?" "Oh my god, Monty, you're such an idiot", the girls rolled their eyes, "Bryce's parents want to meet me." "You would know that feeling if you did enough to make a girl stay with you, not just run away from you", I added feisty.

"Yeah as if my alcoholic dad would feel something like happiness when something good happens to me", he replied sarcastically. "Monts, you know exactly what I mean. Find you a cute girl finally, you deserve one."

"Hey, Liz, how does it feel to know you lost?", Leah grinned at me with two of her friends next to her when I stood at my locker. "I'm stupid so please tell me, Williams, what exactly did I lose? As far as I know I still have my boyfriend, my friends and all of my money is still on my bank account", I grinned at her conceitedly.

Usually, I wasn't behaving like a spoiled brat but she made me so furious whenever I saw her that this was the only way I could answer. "Daddy's money", one of her friends smiled back. "So? I don't know how it is when you can't brag with money. You only wish you could do that with your dad's, too."

That's not me, I swear. But what should I say? Yes, you won, Leah. You've got Jeff and I don't and it's all my fault. Damn, that would be the truth actually. But no, I would never admit that. I hided my insecurities behind material things.

"Does that money at least make you happy when you lay in bed and think about the fact that you're lonely? Must be weird to not have Jeff around you who runs up to you as soon as you snap your fingers."

"You try to make it sound so bad but did you realize that I'm at least the person he did everything for? You know, whenever I needed someone or wanted him, he did whatever I wanted as soon as I called his name. He's done everything for me, what does he do for you?", I still played my role laughing until they stormed off.

But she was right. As soon as she went away, I knew she'd won. My stupid behavior won't make me feel better when I'm on my own. It will only help me so I wouldn't cry in front of other people, people like her.
